My mainline Jamaican darks have been Appleton Estates or Myers, which have always been serviceable without too much burn. This one has a very particular character to it, sort of what you think rum was like 200 years ago. I'm not sure if it's the old-school recipe or the cognac barrel aging, but there's a definite "Funk" that's not for everyone in this. That funkiness makes it great for mixing since it shines through a lot of stuff, but it may not be the best on the rocks.
Needs a little more body and maybe a touch more flavour. It seems to yearn for a little bit of vanilla.....not bad but just about acceptable as a sipping rum for me.
I enjoyed it... not my favorite, but it was different, and quite affordable. Would drink it again.
Plantation barely put a foot wrong imo. Some might complain about sugar and sweetness, but this here is perfect example of what an entry level sipping rum looks like. will make a decent cuba libre, but this one for me is the place to start on 'quality' rum, and is fairly inexpensive too. My favourite way to drink is with a couple of rocks and a squeeze of citrus peel
One of cheapest Plantation's emissary. And suprisingly one of the very good ones. Beautiful bottle with content description. In nose very fruity , notes of caramel, tobacco - contains all of perfect rums should have. Much worse on the tongue , a bit too harsh , not sure if recommendable for sips, but perfectly for mixers. Definatelly I would buy again. (for drinks)
I originally bought this bottle because I was after a cheaper rum to put in cocktails. I was pleasantly surprised when I opened it. On the nose, its sweet & fruity. On the palate, its spicy & smooth. I will keep a bottle of this in my bar for sure.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Edit: After tasting it against Flor de Caña 12 and Mount Gay XO I noticed how inferior this rum is mostly due to the sugar content. It’s way too sweet compared with other rums with not that much difference in price.
I could easily turn it Into an everyday sipper, it is flavourful, smooth and reasonably cheap. Toasted pineapple, caramel and aniseed are the dominant notes on my palate, a tad too sweet but not cloying and the smooth burn makes it a nicer sipper for my taste.
One thing I have to say is that this rum tastes very much the same as the Plantation Overproof but obviously without steroids, I loved both of them, specially the Overproof version which is prob my favourite rum at the moment. That’s not a bad thing and I might be wrong but it really felt like it to me.
Regardless, I really like this rum and I will probably buy it again and I won’t mix it with anything because I am not a big fan of cocktails anyway, neat all the way.
