Has a great funk in it not so overwhelmingly rough but has a great punch. Great stuff from Hunter Laing
This is beautiful with the funk with full strength cask taste wow ...
Taste of wood , toffee and slight apple at the end bizarly ... Burns the Bose but Tastes delicious..add a drop of water to dial it down and then the pepper finishes come through
Classic hampden Estate rum. In the mouth, we find the same aromas with fruits always present but it is not too expressive, it lacks strength. Good Aftertaste.
I was very interesting in trying one of the Kill Devil limited rums. This one exhibits 46% of alcohol, which I find a drawback, the rum being to harsh compared to my favourite Appleton 12yo.
Nice straw color. The Jamaican markers are present as the varnish with also fruity and floral notes. Mainly white fruits like pear. In the mouth, we find the same aromas with fruits always present but it is not too expressive, it lacks strength. The end is short. It does not hold the distance in front of a Hampden of 17 years or 24 years but it is a beautiful rum to discover the Jamaica. Real rate = 7,5
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

This bottling of Kill Devil comes from Jamaica from the Worthy Park distillery. It was made in 2005 in the Pott style. 2005 is the first vintage after the distillery was closed for about 30 years. The rum was allowed to be stored in ex-bourbon barrels for 10 years and was then bottled at a drinking strength of 46% alcohol without additives. I have a bottle from batch 1 with 310 bottles.
The rum has a nice classic Worthy Park nose with overripe tropical fruit, especially banana, but also bourbon notes, spiciness with vanilla and also toasted aromas. Glue notes are not here and the low ester content is clear. Still a good nose. The rum is pleasant to drink on the palate. Candied fruit, burnt sugar, vanilla and banana round out the profile. The finish is then woodier with more spice, boubon notes, roasted aromas, some coffee and a medicinal touch.
I think this low ester bottling for daily sipping is very successful. A classic Jamaican that doesn't demand much but isn't too boring. The 46% is just okay, but it looks a bit thin and lacks power. A good introduction to the world of Jamaica rums.
