The James Gosling family business first produced Gosling Black Seal rum in 1806, and it is now the oldest surviving business on the island of Burmuda.
Gosling 'Black Seal' rum received it's name from the black wax originally used to seal the bottles. It is Bermuda's most widely exported product and considered the nation's national drink.

This rum has a fairly strong alcohol smell when in the bottle, although it has a nice inviting dark red colour. Kind of harsh on its own, it's surprising mild when mixed with a Ginger Beer. While I was hoping for a stronger molasses flavour, it makes a good Dark and Stormy.
Chutovo mierne korenisty, ale aj tak nevΓ½raznΓ½. PoteΕ‘Γ, ale nenadchne.
Nice molasses taste. Usually enjoyed over ice and coke but also with Tropicana strawberry banana juice or pineapple juice. Still a little harsh for straight up.
Kind of an unusual aroma. Can't really put my finger on it. Definitely a dark reddish rum. Tried the famous 'Dark & Stormy' both made myself as well as the canned version by Gosling's and although many people rave over it, it just ain't my thing. I love a good ginger beer but for me, adding rum doesn't do a thing for me. However it works well with Coke Zero and believe it or not, Sprite and Dr. Pepper. I haven't had it in mixed drinks but I expect it would do well. I may request it in a Hurricane or Bushwacker. I think it would work.
I don't mix darks. You can drink this straight up or on the rocks with a shot of water.
The bottle is quite boring with a plastic screw cap and a funny seal (the animal) on it.
A very dark rum with spicy scents.
The taste is sweet, with coffee, caramel and molasses flavours, yet crisp and alcoholic. Thus, Gosling's Black Seal Rum is great in a Dark n Stormy, which is actually a trademark of Gosling's. However the rum could also be sipped, maybe with some ice to soften the crisp taste.
definitely not a sipping rum, only with cola, its sweet, but smells like not like a captain morgan spiced, but some like christmas drink, will not buy again, sorry.
If I would have get this rum in a blind tasting, I would not be sure if I would have said this is a rum. It tastes more like a bitter, a bit like Fernet Branca. So all in all not a sipper. On the other side the Dark n Stormy cocktail is nice, as long as you u can find a proper ginger beer. But I will keep my line on this page and only judge Rums due to their sipping qualities.
'well balanced and nuanced with butterscotch, vanilla and caramel'
"Goslings Black Seal rum review by The Ultimate Rum Guide"
The nose is very pungent. Heavy thick treacly molasses and sweet caramel.
"Itβs initially sweet like liquorice, there is a little heat and spice in the mix and the finish is long and slightly bitter."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

To bad this rum is most known for a dark 'n stormy.
Yes it's great to mix with a gosling ginger beer but I also like it in other dark rum cocktails or even mixed with cola from time to time.
