A nice tasting rum. It's not overly sweet and can be drank on it's own. Definitely worth it.
I've been putting off this review for a long time because I couldn't find this bottle anywhere and I didn't want to rate it with nostalgia goggles. This was my first bottle of coconut rum and I remember absolutely loving it. Then I tried Malibu and I began to question everything. I have finally tracked down this bottle and have tried at least half a dozen other coconut rums since and I'm comfortable rating this as my second favorite coconut rum, after Siesta Key. Perfect, clean coconut taste. No caramel, no chocolate, just pure coconut flavor, and no artificial taste. This is far superior to Koloa Coconut, and at a much better price if you can find it. It is a bit sweeter than the Koloa, but since both bottles are only useable as mixers and neither is good for sipping, it really doesn't make a difference. Probably the best coconut rum for mixing.
My favorite coconut rums:
Siesta Key Coconut (10) - Light coconut and caramel, no artificial flavors, amazing for sipping, amazing for mixing
Brinley Gold Coconut (8) - Strong coconut, no caramel or chocolate, no artificial flavors, great for mixing, not for sipping
Planteray Cut & Dry (8) - Very strong coconut, strong chocolate, no artificial flavors, great for sipping, just ok for mixing, it can overpower drinks
Koloa Coconut (7) - Strong coconut, no caramel or chocolate, slightly artificial, good for mixing, not for sipping
Both bring natural, delicious, sweet taste of coconut and of different exotic fruits.
Brinley is absolutely smooth. Very sweet, oily. Long pleasant aftertaste.
Planteray is less smooth, kicks by little strange ethanol. Like all the Plantations has references to Ferrand cask. Taste is rich, a bit spicy, woody. Medium aftertaste.
Both are excellent mixers.
P.S. At the end of the night I've pulled off the coconut from the fridge. Instead of water it contained Wray & Nephew which has been sitting in there for about 10 days. Two drams of DIY coconut and both "industrial" tastes are gone into history ;)
When it comes to rum, it seems you get what you pay for and coconut rum is no different. This rum came in at a higher cost ($50CAD) but it was worth it. Top notch coconut rum with full coconut flavour at 36%ABV. So easy to sip, it hits the spot. An addition of a little ice cube on a hot day puts you in vacation mode. This is what coconut rum should be. Do yourself a favor and grab a bottle of this. You will not regret it.
By far the best coconut rum I've tasted. Rich, luscious, natural coconut flavor that compliments the quality aged rum base. Yes, it's still too sweet, but at least is has a higher proof than most flavored rums. I like it on the rocks as a dessert sipper, maybe with a few drops of lime or a tiny splash of pineapple juice. A bartender friend of mine came up with an amazing cocktail with it: shake with ice equal parts Brinley Gold Coconut, fresh pineapple juice, and green Chartreuse. Seems like the Chartreuse would dominate too much, but it's perfectly balanced and delicious.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

This has a nice coconut flavor to it, but I find the coconut and sugar a bit strong for my liking.
Might make an interesting mixer, but I rate rums based on their taste straight.
If you like coconut rums, try the Captain Morgan 90 proof, or the Koloa Coconut; my personal favorites.
