This is a fantastic rum to have on hand to mix if you enjoy the flavor of actual rum(s). A little Jamaica Funk, a little Demerara dark sugar, and strong as hell. Sold in the 1 Liter bottle it is also one of the best rums for the money especially considering the potency and how far you can stretch this rum out. This is a home bar staple for me. I like Lemonhart 151 a little more, but that's comparing two different overproof flavor profiles.
The Plantation O.F.TD. is a really surprising rum.
We can drink it alone or in a cocktail. It’s a rum with a high alcohol content.
Despite a high alcohol content, it remains very fragrant.
In the mouth we smell wild exotic fruits, very ripe fruits, banana and papaya and of course caramel.
There is also an aftertaste of honey. I find this rum quite funky.
Great sipping or mixing rum. This is an excellent rum. Try it!!!
Overproof rums can be too much. Ie you have a few sip and then cant taste anything for days.
This one has depth, and whilst it does carry a Thor like punch, it also has layers of flavours.
The last one to sip, in a flight...
Caramel, toffee, vanilla, with warm spices and buttery notes on the tongue and a hell of a fiery burn. Perhaps a hint of hogo but not much. More well rounded than Lemonhart 151 but with a bit less burn. It will really make a great mixer for tiki drinks! I am toying with idea of including this in a rum blend of my own making…
For being 69% this rum is surprisingly smooth and does not taste like pure alcohol like many high percentage spirits. It has almost a sweet taste to it and can definitely distinguish it as a rum rather than just a high percentage bottle of booze. Now saying all that you definitely feel the burn when drinking. I do not recommend this neat to many but it's not awful. Overall my first foray into overproof rums has been a solid one.
This is probably my favorite sipper so far. complex, strong and not too sweet. Due to high proof you may need to add some water to dilute it a bit. Haven't tested this in a cocktail yet but I believe it's gonna kick ass.
It’s very intense, almost sickly sweet.
"It’s a sweet yet almost bitter, molasses heavy nose."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

OFTD stays for old fashioned traditional dark. Tried this one pure, it was served in a ice cold glass. That helped somewhat to put my nose inside. It punches hard but is still drinkable neat (if you are used to casc strengths already). However it is best used for mixing since it is available for 20-25 EUR for 70cl at 69%vol in Germany. Facts: blend of 3 (Guyana, Jamaica, Barbados).
