($44CAD) Well if you want a rum that hits back, this is the one. Initially purchased this to make rum balls (delicious), but I had to give it a go neat as well. I’ve been a fan of the plantation rums I’ve tried so far so I expected to like this one as well.
The aroma takes me back to the Stiggin Fancy bottle, in the best way. A bit of fumes coming off as well but not bad, considering the 69%ABV. Pineapple and coffee on the nose, very pleasant.
Plum and raisin rush to your palette with some fire not far behind. All kinds of goodness rest on your tongue as the fire fades away: wood, coffee, leather, tobacco but also dried fruits, pineapple, and toffee.
This rum ticks all the boxes: it’s readily available, decently priced, full character, has antiseptic properties and will keep you coming back for more.
Dark n stormy? Yessir! Mai tai? Yeap. Straight up? Hells yes. The value of this one is huge. A new staple.
Do yourself a favour and check this one out.
I get it. It's got more flavor than most, it's a great deal and in some ways it is good in cocktails - in that it totally dominates those cocktails. So if you like this overpowering flavor it will come through loud and clear in every cocktail. But it's still a bit too much for me, and like all cask strength of anything, finding the balance is tough. The nose is fantastic though... love the cherry note.
today i found a real good over proof, the hampden rum fire white over proof,
tried plantation over proof neat and i suspect that they loaded it with sugar ...
but even if not, they say rum is from many caribbean islands but unknown ones ...
sorry, don t like lack of transparency
from now hampden is my bar overproof, no more plantation !
The kick of this one is enormous, but the after taste is worth it. Literally an explosion of different taste notes
tried both neat, on ice and as a mixer. found it too strong to drink straight so i mixed it in drinks and it was just amazing.
A bit smoky and caramel notes… still had some hints of spice rum and heavy alcohol finish.
Nice nose and flavor for a good solid rum but not a repeat purchase with all the great rum.
There is an apparent sweetness on the nose, mixed with raisins, heavy molasses and Jamaican funky overripe banana, the sweet feeling is also at the beginning of the taste profile (aspecially at the beginning of the bottle, it is almost gone towards the end), which quickly turns into burnt rubber and burning bitterness. The texture is suspiciously oily as if some additives were present. For 69% ABV it is even sippable in small quantities for those who are not faint-hearted. When watered down 2 to 1 to some 45 % ABV, the burnt rubber is still present on the nose, the aftertaste is bitter molasses, spices and an alcohol kick. When mixed with coke, Jamaican funk strikes the nose, sweet tones are gone, the bitter ending of the taste profile somewhat negates the coke sweetness. I have to say that this mix of components from Jamaica, Guayana and Barbados somehow does not appeal to my nose and taste buds. I use it mainly undilluted as a cure for the sore throat. The price is actually good for the ABV though.
Sipping this straight will put hair on your chest.
It’s very intense, almost sickly sweet.
"It’s a sweet yet almost bitter, molasses heavy nose."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

OFTD is one decent rum! I love it straight up or with full fat Coke / ginger (Bundy ginger is best). First had it in Bahrain...of all places! Makes a v.decent dark n stormy. Great for a rum hit to cool those nerves or just as wake up juice! Its a tad more expensive than a daily driver but it is overproof so you get what you get. OFTD is in my top 5 so far.... Still manh rums out there!
