Appleton Estate 12-Year Rum is a blend of several rums aged between 12 and 18 years in American oak barrels after being distilled using small-batch copper pot stills.
The rum is produced on the Appleton Estate, which sits in the Nassau Valley in Jamaica. The estate’s origins date back as far as 1655 when the English overthrew the Spanish to rule the island and Frances Dickinson, grandfather of the distillery’s founders, received the land as a reward for his role in the overthrow.

First had this while on vacation in Canada. For sweetness, it comes in between the dryish Kirk & Sweeney and the sweet Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva, both of which I also keep stocked. Smooth, rich, carmelly, rum taste that is wonderful when rolled around the palate on initial sip. IMHO slightly better than Ron Zacapa Solera 23 at about $10 less per bottle in the lovely state of Ohio. It is best when purchased fresh from a more upscale liquor store with clientele willing to keep the stock moving. A perennial favorite in our home.
At first I was very hesitant, I did not want buy a bottle. Instead it was a pleasant surprise. Really good Jamaican aged rum
I drink the12 yr rum most often but still enjoy the 21 yr for a treat. Still waiting for a 50 yr.
enjoyed this with cloudy apple juice as a mixer - not 100% sold, but a nice change of pace.
Got to know this one in a bar, and will be an ever present member of my drinks cabinet from now on.
One of my favourite rum. Dry, fresh, simple. I recommande it strait up. No ice!
A bit overrated. Not as smooth as alleged.
Not a favorit.
Nothing like I have tastet before. Bad aftertaste.
Actually being a whisky drinker for almost two decades now, this is the first bottle of aged rum I bought myself. Compared to other rums I enjoyed with friends I really like the allround quality. It is not overly sweet (as some young rums I've tasted are) but still much sweeter than any scotch, has a nice development and a slight woody and charred aftertaste.
Also a proper rum to drink straight. Personally speaking, any spirit which doesn't hold up by itself is not worth any of time, money or efforts.
Good one to start my journey into older rums I reckon.

The rum offers a lot of smoky spiced oak flavour.
"A nice note of cocoa and a little hint of vanilla. The rum is smooth yet spicy offering a nice kick. The finish is long and complex leaving a lot of flavour behind to savour."

Good straight out of the bottle. Sipper through and through. Light up a nice cigar and enjoy a session drink with this stuff.
