Guyana | Aged | 40% ABV | Pot and Column Still
El Dorado 12-Year Rum is composed of a blend of aged rums, all at least 12 years old. The rums are distilled using a combination of stills including coffey stills and a double wooden pot still before being aged in bourbon oak casks.
Demerara Distillers of Guyana produces El Dorado 12-year rum and is the country's last remaining distillery, with origins tracing back to 1670. The name ""El Dorado"" references the legendary city of gold that is said to be in the country's Rupununi region.

Had this, neat, at Baretta (Italian-American restaurant) with my brother on a recent visit. Paired surprisingly well with dinner! Loads of caramel and vanilla up front. Medium finish with no ‘funk’ or overwhelming coconut which was to my liking. My brother’s girlfriend, who does not like whiskey, vodka, nor any other liquor, tried a sip and said that she liked the El Dorado 12 because it was exceptionally smooth.
Good rum, slightly sweeter than the 15 yr. Like it better than 15 yr.
Let's start by saying that I am a real fan of Demerara Rums. The bottle presentation and the tie-in to the "City of Gold" only enhanced my desire to try this rum.
It is a nice dark amber pour in the glass. The nose is subdued with no over powering alcohol.
What hits the mouth is a fairly simple rum, however give it a few seconds and the flavor palette expands noticeably. This rum is smooth so there is very little alcohol burn post swallow, however the tastes linger on for a significant period.
I normally take my drinks neat, however I also sample new rums both on ice and with cola. Usually I feel that either option is at best neutral and seldom an improvement, provided that I am testing decent rum.
Personally, I would leave the ice out of ED12, however I find it to be quite enjoyable with Coke.
This is a very reasonable price point rum given that it is a bona fide sipper plus you won't cringe when your visitors add Coke. In fact you may well add Coke yourself some days.
Excellent rum to have in your cabinet as an all rounder
I do like sweet rums, and this one is like a spicy brown sugar rum happiness. It’s woodsy with some oak. Relatively heavy weight - not syrup but in that direction. Short slightly sour finish isn’t the best but Ok. Not overly complex but easy sipper. Would be great for someone just getting started on rum.
Just brilliant. This is the rum that officially got me deep into the rabbit hole of delicious rum. Admittedly I've had better in the years since, but this isn't a rating based on nostalgia as it's a fantastic rum in its own right (a bit too sweet for some though). However the price point at just over $30 for me easily cinches its deserved rating.
This is one of the best rums to spend money and time on. It finds a great home neat in your glass or on the rocks and is an absolute terror in cocktails. It makes a devastating daiquiri or is great in a hurricane. So silky smooth for a 12 year old rum but less financial commitment than many rums of this caliber might require. Cannot go wrong with this if you drink rum at home.
První seznámení uplně nedopadlo, ale na 2. rande se to změnilo a další a další setkání se to jen zlepšovalo...až se to celé udělalo, jo ....cukr/karamel jasně, sladší rum, konec zaštípe, ale ok.
First rum that I would use as a sipping rum only. There is no need to mix this rum. Very smooth and nice finish
This is good rum and not sweet flavors.......
Like a lot mixed only with a ice block
Lush tropical fruit and spice nose with hints of honey and dark sugar...
"El Dorado 12-Year rum review by Mike at Ultimate Rum Guide"
It’s sweeter with more delicate fruit flavours coming to the fore.
"It’s very sweet and quite light. It’s very easy drinking. As a sipping rum it as easy to drink."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Reasonably priced for a decent quality rum. I'll have to try out more from El Dorado, but this is definitely a good sipping rum.
