Guyana | Aged | 40% ABV | Pot and Column Still
El Dorado 12-Year Rum is composed of a blend of aged rums, all at least 12 years old. The rums are distilled using a combination of stills including coffey stills and a double wooden pot still before being aged in bourbon oak casks.
Demerara Distillers of Guyana produces El Dorado 12-year rum and is the country's last remaining distillery, with origins tracing back to 1670. The name ""El Dorado"" references the legendary city of gold that is said to be in the country's Rupununi region.

Very great aroma that is carried by vanilla and other fruitiness. Very smooth taste with great caramel notes.
In my opinion: The best typical Starter Rum. Good enough flavour profile, good nose, somewhat added sugar yet not too sweet.
Compared to this Rum, people should be able to tell, if they like it heavier or smoother, more sweet and/or more fruity.
I would recommend this Rum towards Rum beginners most of the time.
This is a good solid sipping rum. I have tried many different rums and I find the El Dorado demererra rums to be just good easy drinking rums. Smooth, fruity rums that may be a bit sweet but not overly alcohol taste. For the money this rum provides a good value, maybe not the best but certainly a stong contender to always have in the liquor cabinet.
This one surprised me quite a bit. So smooth, and such a dominant taste of vanilla. Long long vanilla finish and quite smooth.
To me, a totally different flavor profile compared to the 15 yo, and better.
I have been trying a lot rums under $50 lately and I had read good things about El Dorado 12 before picking up a bottle. It smells wonderful and it has a fruity, sweet flavor. To me, it is sort of in the vein of a Santa Teresa 1796 or Diplomatico Gran Reserva. This definitely has sugar added. Maybe just a little too much for some bourbon and rum drinkers but this is an excellent sipper over a large ice cube or even neat.

Shot at friend.
Fruity, caramel, and spice on the tongue with a smooth finish. It takes you almost to that bourbon/whiskey taste, BUT stops before it gets there.
One of the best rums to begin your sipping journey.
Lush tropical fruit and spice nose with hints of honey and dark sugar...

I'm not gonna say this one is bad, but I had it las weekend and wasn't impressed. I'm not sure what I expected, but to me it didn't hit any of the right notes for me. It felt a bit rubbery, which may be what youre looking for at times, but coupled with a taste I may only describe as "fake", this didn't really grab me.
It might be your thing, and it won't ruin your day, but I'm not gonna buy a bottle of this, ever.
Might bump it to 5,5.
