Guyana | Aged | 40% ABV | Pot and Column Still
El Dorado 12-Year Rum is composed of a blend of aged rums, all at least 12 years old. The rums are distilled using a combination of stills including coffey stills and a double wooden pot still before being aged in bourbon oak casks.
Demerara Distillers of Guyana produces El Dorado 12-year rum and is the country's last remaining distillery, with origins tracing back to 1670. The name ""El Dorado"" references the legendary city of gold that is said to be in the country's Rupununi region.

A rum that I find so very enjoyable, especially considering the price. The nose is full and a little spicy with notes of rounded oak, leather, and sweet citrus.
The full demerara palette is smooth with molasse sweetness, tobaco, distinct citrus undertones, some barrel notes and perhaps a bit of liquorice. The aftertaste lingers with a cosy, lightly warming sensation.
I prefer the 12year old more than the 15 or 21 version.
not sharp as the 15 or 21 version, sweeter , and the perfect price
Nose: little bit sweet , spicy , fruity , caramel, smoke , wood
Taste: little bit sweet , spicy ,dark fruit , caramel, vanilla , smoke , wood
Quite good mixing rum, too much sugar added for a sipping rum.
After spending more time with my El Dorado 12 and 15, I have reconsidered my rating and upped the 12 year to a 10. This is to date my favorite rum neat. I think it was slightly sweeter than the 15 year and overall, I just enjoyed it more. Don't get me wrong. No complaints about the 15 year but if I had to choose between the two, I'd take that 12 year.
Initially there is sweet thick cut orange marmalade and spicy Christmas pudding. This is followed by cinnamon, vanilla, brown sugar and toffee. The taste has instant unfaltering sweetness with a little burn and a spice kick There is so much fruitiness to this rum. Orange, banana, apricot, peach and raisins. Sadly ruined by the fact that that it's sweetened
Extremely rich flavor, very smooth, great color, everything you want in a rum. To call it the Cadillac of rums would be to overestimate Cadillacs. I prefer it even to the 15 and 21 and it's as cheap as the intermediate rums of its competitors.
My favourite for regular consumption.. Sweet and complex - I never get sick of it.
One of my favourites by a mile. Can't think of many more I'd prefer to be sipping on for the same price.
Super dark color, a bit of a bit initially but it mellows out after the first sip. Great texture, smooth. It's got a number of flavors, very sweet and a bit dry. Definitely a go-to sipping rum, an easy one to enjoy over and over.
Lush tropical fruit and spice nose with hints of honey and dark sugar...

This one is a lot sweeter and less punchy than the 15 yo and to me this one is best used in cocktails but can sip too, if only it didn`t have so much sugar added, 36g/L is a LOT.The 12 year old is aged in used whisky and bourbon barrels. In 2006 it was reformulated, It has tasting notes of fruit, tobacco and orange peel and has tropical fruits and spice nose. This rum contains predominantly copper coffey still rum from Diamond blended with the double wooden pot still at Port Mourant and marques from the Enmore wooden Coffey.Take out the sugar that was added and it would been a great rum.
