This is a very good British "navy" style rum, it drinks nice and smooth with a nice nose of molasses, caramel, vanilla and a mild scent of oak. Typical sweet Guyanese rum with a bit of sugar added. It drinks incredibly smooth for the slightly higher proof. Tastes of strong molasses, toffee, vanilla, slight citrus notes and a touch of oak and char on the finish. Makes a fantastic Painkiller or other related cocktail. Much better than the standard Pusser's, much more character and flavor.
Would happily stock this as a staple in my cabinet. Got to be in my top 5 at this time. Highly recommend.
While still retaining the shippable nature of a rum with pleasant rich flavours and being a strong rum makes this a very dangerous drop.
Definately a sipping rum though I wouldn't be giving it to anyone new to rum as the strength may turn them off.
Certainly worth the time to explore this one though.
It reflects the definition of Navy Rum.
I prefer sipping this diluted with 75% water.
The flavours then devolp and open up gaining the front stage whilst leaving the alcohol bite in the background.
Caramel, toasted nuts and vanilla, hints of coffee and spice. Nice balance.
This is the same as the 40% ABV version.
This Gunpowder Proof works better for mixing, being even more powerful.
Love on the first sip.
This rum has everything for me. Satisfyingly rich and complex aroma, enough dirtyness to be interesting in the long run. Hint of sweetness. Molasses, dried fruit, warmth, hint of gasoline.
I really like this.
As for the "Navy Rum" standard version, I don't think you will find any better value for your money. Excellent, excellent, excellent.
This review is about the All-Guyana version.
I decided that my first Pusser's will be Gunpowder. And this was good choise. Strong but smooth with good flavor
Yes, this was ok, Strong but a nice finish.
And you can always put Coke in it
It is fruity, hints of smokiness.
"Itβs not sickly and overly spiced like some navy rums. There is a real complexity about this rum with a lot of flavour. ."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

I have a mini sample bottle of this rum. I started with a sniff, took a straight warm taste, took a taste on ice, and then mixed in a can of Pepsi.
I couldn't quite come up with the taste/smell I was experiencing. I was thinking Carmel and Cherry without the fruit flavor which I realize doesn't make sense. The website description says molasses... which could be it. I don't think I could identify molasses.
It's bold and you can taste the alcohol, but it's not sharp. I liked it better cold. With Pepsi, it's distinctive and different but not as good as Mt Gay, Bumbu, or Millonario. For that, I'd give it a 5-6. This is probably for enjoying straight rather than mixing.
