This is a great sipping rum. Serve it neat or on ice. I was curious to try it, so I bought a bottle and so glad I did. It put a smile on me with the first taste.
Creamy, sweet, caramel flavor and is very smooth.

Very smooth rum with delicate notes of sugar cane, spices and long smooth finish. Perfect for sipping. Probably best choice in price category

Nicht zu süß aber auch nicht zu stark. Ein sehr guter Rum für zwischendurch

If you consider the price it should be a 10, but I haven't taste all rums ( !!! ) so it's a 9. The taste is simply smooth and it's something that hasn't changed after 3 bottles. Keep in mind that this is not a sweet rum, ....exactly as I want :)

I started on RumRatings about 2 months ago; I drank rum before but with too much money not spend and too much time at home, both due to the covid-19 crisis, I could use an uplifting new occupation and here I was. Now I like (most of) my spirits dry and I found out that a large amount of reviewers here are really a sweet tooth so how to read all the reviews?

Discarding the reviews with no real information or 1's and 10's from one-time raters was simple but how to interpret the rest? Well, it was pretty easy with this Diplomatico (of which I knew by descriptions it would be a liquid bonbon); the most reviewed rum was coming to my rescue. So I simply dismissed all negative reviews on a dry rum if the reviewer had this rum rated 8 or higher in his (or her) cabinet. Discriminating maybe but simple and it worked like a charm. I just never tasted the stuff.....

When I came across a small bottle I decided the money spend should be seen as college fee and here I am behind a glass of Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva... But first about the bottle itself; it is superb! Having that ages old ambiance it is easy to see a bunch of pirates planning their next mischief over a couple of bottles like this. A++

It opens with orange, vanilla (lots of), fudge but also some notes that reminds me more of a Ron Elixir than something I sensed in other rums. On the palate, OMG, the sweetness of it all; the plotting pirates turn instantly into grinning grannies at their sunday afternoon bridge table. There is still a little fruit left in between all the fudge and just enough alcohol bite to remind me this is a spirit but the sugarry mess dominates this not particulary complex rum. Again I get notes that I associate with Ron Elixir rather than with rum. I cannot drink this, it is way too sweet, but I do think this would be great to soak your raisins or use it in pastry or on icecream. There was some vanilla icecream left in the fridge and I can confirm this goes really really well together, but call me a rum snob, I don't want to 'sip' this!

In my book a rum that I cannot drink never gets more than a 3 but because of the great mix with icecream I will be a nice guy and rate it a 4. And I know now why my review system works so well indeed!

A very good after dinner sipping rum, easy and very soft. At first sip it was a little too sweet and soft but now I really enjoy it in the winter, not suited for mixing. The aftertaste was much better than expected and I have now gone through 2 bottles. Not exactly Zacapa XO but neither is the price. A very good value for the money.

Really deep taste of vanilla, chocolate, honey....a clear finish. Very smooth....
You will get premium quality for middle range price.

Easy, smooth and sweet for cold occasions. Vanilla, toffee and oak. Average to low price for experts and beginners. Love it.

My second Diplomatico rum and so far I’m liking it. I’ve read where people said it’s too sweet, yet I find it just sweet enough. I’m picking up dried fruits like raisins and a cinnamon and spice. It has a nice light sweet aroma which reminds me of bread pudding. It does have hints of vanilla but they aren’t overwhelming and it’s a very nice sipper.

I have revised my original review slightly. The more I drink this the more I like it. First let me say by all means try this. It is easy to drink. Very smooth and has a good lingering finish. I can see why some reviewers have declared this to be a liquor, not rum. I like sweet rum and this one is. For those that covet rum that has some real bite to them this is pure cane syrup.. I get it. But this is just sweet, very good rum, not a real liquor. Besides the candy, there is some pepper hiding back there. Some raisins and oak too along with subtle mint notes. It has nice balance and is easy to sip. If you are a fan of sweet rum you will love this. I sometimes choose more "bite" but I definitely enjoy this fine rum too.
