The wonderful oak and caramel syrup. Long aftewards, I can taste coffee and chocolate. Is extremely well crafted and balanced.
I am not sure why but the rum tasted a bit like nuts? I prefer sweeter rum, but beside this the rum was pretty intense, flavorful...
Note : 65/100
I am not an expert... I am just a guy that wanted to find the 'best rum to sip on a Saturday evening...'.
This is one of the ones I bought ($50). It's great... but not as good as a Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva... yet it has a similar angle.
Ce qui m'attire, sur le cuir et le tabac, notes de café, pas besoin de glace, une vraie douceur.
smooth rum , but for that price there are better choices
The Dictador 20 is more subtle then the Dictador 12. The oak smokiness is still present but less dominant. Some vanilla, cinnamon, caramel and spices. Lingering aftertaste.
I personally prefer the (cheaper) Dictador 12 for most occasions but this is still a very good rum.
Even if you are not rum expert, you will feel taste and know the difference between this 20-years old and his younger brother. As I don´t like 12-year old too much, this older version is much better and you don´t need any ice to tastes good. It has nice caramel, honey, toffe taste with a little bit strong start from the beginning but very soft and complex.
Update: Tried this rum the day after, with a better result.
Less bitterness, and more of the rum taste, but still an unpleasant bitter sensation in the finish.
Update from a 3 to 4.
Interesting bottle, with a weird feel. Almost rubber like, but a funny ceramic sound.
First nose from the bottle - Port wine, sweet, prunes, vanilla, chocolate.
In the glass, beautiful amber color, lovely legs.
Nose - Caramel, vanilla, chocolate, molases.
Taste is strong at first. The notes of the rum is at first hidden by a bitter taste. Sweet in the middle, with a hint of vanilla and caramel, but again ending with a sharp bitterness.
Very weird rum. Initially expecting a lot from the bottle, nose, and color, but getting a weird, bitter tast that lasts all the way through. Its a real struggle to find the notes of the rum behind the bitter tast. Definitely not a favorite of mine. Bought it because I heard interesting things - Not always good things - about it, and I can say, this wont be going in the bar cabinet again when its empty.
There is a hint of tobacco and a touch of tar. Overall though its mostly sweet.
"It has a reasonable amount of alcohol burn to reassure you it is a 40% spirit. It’s more like a kind of sherried flavoured vodka. I’m sure such a drink exists somewhere."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

The coffee taste is pretty intense and I guess that is not for everyone's taste. I love it tho, one of my absolute favorites!
