I have since moved onto better rums such as Doorly's 5 yr ($20 for a 1.75 ltr) for such purposes but unless you are in a state where Total Wine has liquor you are out of luck.
I found this fairly neutral flavour wise and somewhat insipid. Was definitely not to my taste on the rocks and ultimately mixed with something to mask the flavour.
Mixing rum only. Cruzan Gold and I did not get along. Bought it on a whim a while ago to challenge my standard Bacardi gold rum for mixing but was very disappointed.
When it first met my taste buds, I thought things would really work out between us, a light but teasing complex flavor working well with the Cola that was different to the Bacardi. The problems started once the rum started settling, this very cheap bottom shelf flavor invaded the party destroying all of the initial hope, that taste never left after that. Couldn't drink the rest of the bottle as a result.
Revised after trying more rums: Not a sipper but among my favorite mixers becuase it's flavorful and versatile for a reasonable price. Great in a rum Collins, with cola, fruit flavored sparking water (lemon/lime is best) or added to egg nog. My favorite is with tonic and a lime wedge.
Excellent for Rum and Diet Cokes or any other easy mixer. Great Rum for the price. I prefer it to Bacardi.
Great product for the price. A good value, much better than Bacardi (except for their Anejo). A 1.75 here is regularly available for $18.49, hard to beat that for mixing.
A good rum for mixing. Not alot of flavors upfront, but still good. Price wise, cheaper than Mount Gay or Appleton reserve so its a really good value. Great for parties and open bars.
Excellent rum with coke or another mix, a bit harsh to drink straight or on the rocks
I like the Caribbean influences of this rum, as a mixer and over ice. I prefer it with tonic and lime, I am not into the cola thing. Once in a while I'll do a island style punch with sweet, sour and all important bitters which brings out the island essence. If you add just a touch of Black Strap (a few drops) it approaches an Anniversario's richness.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label
