Happy New Year’s Eve Rum: Botron 15 from Guatemala. This is the second Botron on my list, the 18, according to my notes came in at a 9/10. So this has something to rise up to. It’s a blend of 5 and 15 year old Rums. Cheating if you ask me. Let’s get too it…

In the glass it’s the right colour. A dark, rich copper. After a swish in the glass, the nose is light, not Rum-like however. It’s heavy in alcohol and there are few key notes in there. I get a bit of apricot and hint of coconut. Perhaps it’s more 5 year than 15.

The first taste on the pallet is rewarding, starts off sweet for a while, then slowly becomes peppery after a bit. I wouldn’t call it a burn at all. New Rum drinkers might be surprised at the heat. I few sips in the first flavour presence is caramel, followed by oakiness and a hint of grassiness. There is a smidge of vanilla, but overall the taste is not complex, kind of mono-dimensional. The late sips still carry the early sweetness in the sip I noticed on the first sips.

The long finish is of old orange and dances on the dry side. This one could be a sipper or a mix with fruit juices. Not as good at the 18 but fair. 7/10. Number 369 of my 500 Rum goal!

For the price it's a decent rhum, easy to drink. Sweet but a bit too much of alcohol feeling

Color ambra carico, limpido, abbastanza viscoso.
Al naso ha prevalentemente note di caramello, orzo matato, miele, vaniglia, poco profondo.
In bocca è abbastanza morbido, sapori di legno, con una leggera tostatura, finale quasi amaro.

Smooth but it can kick a little, yet tasty. An interesting mix for me.

Lo sentí demasiado intenso, muy fuerte.. pero tal vez yo no estaba en el mejor momento para hacer la cata.. le daría otra oportunidad sin dudar

Nice warm rum with a taste of oak and fruit that stay in the back of the mouth

I'm not generally a fan of the style, finding it a bit boring, but it does tend to produce a consistent, approachable, sweet, easy sipper. Hard to find fault, especially at the price. You can taste the time in cognac barrels, and honey. Having it with nuts and chocolate brought our those subtleties nicely.

Rhum sympathique et doux, à boire entre copains. Très accessible.
