Tasted at Laka Lono on 4/11/21. This looks to be the same rum that has been re-branded as "Rumble." Same label and proof (47%). Aroma of whiskey and strychnine. Horrid acetaldehyde aroma. The flavor is fire. Sandpaper on the tongue. Even at 47%, this creates an overproof burn far beyond what it should. This is gross and should not be consumed by anyone.
I really wanted to like Balcones Texas Rum. Unfortunately, I can't say that I do.
The aroma is actually quite pleasant with dried apricot, caramel, oak, and ethanol. On the palette it is quite hot and rough- young. Age statement of "At least 23 months in oak." The ABV was written on the label in silver Sharpie and smeared, but I believe it says 63.8%.
I have tried it neat, over ice and with a splash of water. I cannot recommend it neat, but the addition of ice or water make it more enjoyable. I think this rum has potential in an old fashioned.
There are in excess of one million and one fantastic rums at this price point. Only buy if you want to support Balcones.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Nutty on the nose like clement rhum, putrid chemical flavor like if prunes made soda syrup, overly sweet finish and weird burn.
