The older brother of Chairman's Reserve Finest, nose is real beauty, sweet fruity tones, mixed with charred barrel, toffee and a waft of elderberry, on the palate there is oak, chocolate, spices, all deep and pleasant, with a bit of sweetness, but without added sugar. The aftertaste is long and spicy, turning towards bitter, with a bit of an pleasing alcohol prickle. The overall taste profile is smooth, almost oily, first glass from the bottle seems a bit one dimensional, but the taste develops nicely after a few glasses. My feeling is similar I get with Doorly's - this one is indeed a pleasing and honest rum without additives. Compared with Doorly's 8y - this one has a bit less elaborated nose (Doorly is exceptional indeed), has more heavy, spicy and round taste. Good job mister Chairman!
God rom som saknar det lilla extra men slinker ner snabbt.
It’s a nice sipper with no much of a personality, nothing that stands out. Sweet with a medium finish.
The rum is a nice amber colour. It has a decent amount of body. On the nose are a lot of molasses and brown sugar, a hint of vanilla and a hit of alcohol. On the tongue is some continued brown sugar, a greater dose of alcohol and some baking spices. It’s quite dry for a rum that has sugary notes. Not a lot of burn for something with a pronounced alcohol nose and flavour. Decent rum, but nothing particularly notable about it.
I was pleasantly surprised when drinking this one. Not overly sweet and has a smokiness to the flavor. Dark chocolate, toffee, and citrus notes are found on the tongue. There is a little burn on the end but not bad, let’s you know you’re drinking something. The price point wasn’t bad and I like the actual cork top.
I have learned to appreciate the standard Chairman's Reserve so trying this one is the next logical step. On the nose you immediately notice its aging; less pot still funk, more raisins than orange and all in all a warmer scent. The smokey barrel is still there but more in the background and on the palate there is also that rush of sweetness as with the standard one but less wild and more blended in. It is definitely less funky overall and probably better suited for a larger audience. It also ends with some tobacco, a wee bit chocolate and (a little less dry) smokey oak.
A well deserved 8 but I wonder if I will ever buy a bottle of 'The Forgotten casks' again. The reason why I like the standard Chairman's Reserve is apart from its price the fact that it is a bit rough around the edges and this one is more refined (and in a way the better rum) but has also lost some of its character for me. And where most decent destillers (and I do rate St. Lucia Destillers as one of those) make maybe their greatest progress from their €20 to the €40 offerings, here the improvement does not stand out so much. There is vast competition at this pricepoint and I feel 'The Forgotten Casks' stays a little behind with some of those. A nice rum though...
I’m not a massive fan of the normal chairman’s reserve rums.
But this is sensational.
It still has a slightly smokey, tobacco-ey taste and smell to it.
"The extra ageing has added an extra depth of flavour (if not smoothness) to the rum."

A smooth and not too complex rum from St. Lucia and it will not leave you disappointed.
