Light Carmel color. Burnt sugar and oak on the nose. Upon taste it says power. Reminds me of bourbon
A lot of heat. The toffee is there. Cream brulee with a hint of scotch on the finish. Fantastic.
Not sure if it is the same bottle, I think Duncan Taylor produced several differents Caronis in the 16-17y. I have got the same bottle pictured by mistercoughly (cask 883).
Not much more to say, a very good Caroni with all the typical features of this kind of rum. A good alternative to the more known (and expensive- say hype ?) bottlings...
As soon as you crack open a bottle of excellent Caroni (such as this one) you are assaulted with the unmistakable aromas of lacquer, varnish, tar and tangerines. Heaven! This batch is from 1997, aged 17 years and bottled at a respectable 104 proof. More familiar flavors...old wood, new wood, pepper, bananas, licorice...tasty as all get-up. A nice long finish of menthol and smoke. Trinidad's finest.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Tasted at The Grass Skirt on 5-22-24. Pours a dark brownish amber color. Aroma of cayenne pepper and Oreo cookies. Radical flavor of cherries and leather tannins. Palate is an absolutely cloyingly dryness. Such a fun rum to sip. A very mild licorice to the finish. Great stuff.
