I have both bottles. The normal one and the one that is finished in whiskey barrels. You can really taste the difference. Wonderfully fruity and wood tones. Complex tones in it. Delicious rum!
Not this planet! This is good. No, very good, but no way in Hell is this a 10. Plantation makes a malt whisky finished rum that makes this look like root beer. And it is 10 years younger. Try it!
The nose on this is almost non-existant, even in a snifter or a cairn glass. Yes, I tried both in order to be sure the nose is this pedestrian. Its very, very smooth. Its very balanced but not complex. The finish is horribly short. This is WEAK for a 25 year old rum. COME ON! This finish is short. This is the second time Oliver has let me down. There won't be a third. Dont beleive the hype. Not for $100. Oh yeah, over priced too. There is a lot of better rum out there ladies and gentlemen.
Opthimus rums are produced by the famous Dominican distillery Oliver & Oliver. The rums are made using the solera method, with the oldest rums being up to 25 years old. The resulting blend is then aged for several months in Single Malt whisky casks. The rum is bottled at 43% ABV.
Bottle: Nice, exclusive with a strong bottom
Colour: Mahogany
Aroma: A bit more technical with a stronger alcohol note. Slightly sweeter later on. Vanilla, cocoa, honey, walnuts, whisky barrel were recognized in the nose.
Mouth: Dense and full-bodied. Slightly sweet but also woody. On the palate, I smelled cocoa, caramel, tobacco, prunes and apples, whisky.
Aftertaste: Medium.
Summary: A fairly complex rum with a sweetish taste. Compared to Oliver's other rums, it's not as sweet and is a bit more varied in flavour. I recommend letting the rum sit for 10 to 15 minutes before drinking.

Přijde mi, že ten čas ve Whiskey sudu kompletně posbíral rumovou ostrost a přidal nikoli třtinovou, ale sladovou sladkost a jemnost. Rozhodně skvělý počin. Pokud by se jednalo o láhev za 1tis., dal bych 10b, ale v kategorii 2tis.+ je u mne 10b hodnocení vyhrazeno pro láhve Foursquare, Centenario a Unhiqum.
I'm usually not a big fan of mature spanish style rums. They are too sweet and cloying for my taste on average, but this one was actually quite good. Matured on Tomatin whisky casks I've been told, this is obviously round, sweet and full of fruity and caramel flavours, but also plenty of vegetal and spicy notes to keep it interesting.

An excellent rum that is smooth and has a balanced taste. You can feel the difference with the 25 year old Opthimus, this Malt whisky rum one is a little less sweet.
