Old Monk XXX 7-Year

I bought this rum in Goa. For about $2.00.
Yup, that's right. And maybe that colors my judgement.

It has a nose that reminds you a lot of rum-raisin icecream and the taste is actually quite nice, but you can't get away from the feeling that it is almost as a liqueur, tasting like it's flavored with rum essence. But it isn't too sweet, the taste is quite rich in it's essence, but it fades away quickly. Prominent taste of burnt sugar, and fudge, and a bit heavy on the alcohol taste. I've only tasted it straight up, so I don't know how it mixes as a drink, or how it taste with ice, but I imagine there are better choices. Definitely worth $2 though!

Ostrý, málo sladký, podobná chuť ako whiskey. Nebude môj obľúbený, ale nephrniem nad ním nos.

It is fun to have taste it but is not the product I would buy again. If in India and not ant other choise ok! artificial smell and taste.

Burnt butterscotch and spices. Not top shelf, perhaps, but a decent sipper and mixer.

Very similar to Black/Spiced rums around. Strong caramel, vanila and cloves. Woody and licore notes behind.

1st rum I ever had that didn't have the typical (what I call) rum taste. But you can still tell it's a rum. It's interesting. Not sure if I like it or not, & my family is split 50/50 so it's got be worth a 5/10. Not sorry I bought it, & it's a decent price so it's at least worth trying.

Ja, hvem skulle have troet at indien også kunne lave rom? Siger næste sig selv, at naturligvis kan de det, englænderne har haft landet som koloni om lur mig om der ikke er en enkelt eller to som har lært teknikken :-)

Tast like Christmas spices. Sometimes sold for low prices in indian supermarkets sth. below 15€. Then it is worth trying.

This stuff will cure every sickness known to man.

If you want to make the best of it, mix it with Thums Up Cola.

Your best choice in India. Rich taste with some interesting notes of vanilla, caramel and spice, but slightly, ever so slightly synthetic taste. Great in a mixed drink and ok on its own if you don't have access to something better.
