This blend of Haitian agricole and clairin, aged in French oak (cognac) casks for 3 years, I can find for $32 in my area. This has become my go-to sipping rum. Absolutely delicious.
Notes: Banana, vanilla, base of earthy coffee rounds, lots of stone fruit.
Tasted at Laka Lono on 1/19/22 and I should note for the record that the first time I tried to write the name down, I spelled it San Janz, which I do think would make a good rum name.
Notes indicate I felt this was a classic agricole and that I liked it.
I've seen this in my local store and finally decided to give it a try. On the nose, I get notes of vanilla, toffee and what reminds me of rootbeer. I'm getting a sweet grassy note as well as toffee and that same rootbeer note as well. I'm also getting a little warming on the way down, just enough to let me know it's there.
I love Haitian clarin, but this tastes like a bog standard low to mid range rum. Surprising alcohol burn for 43%, and tastes enough like molasses, that I'd assume it was a column still molasses rum (maybe sweetened) if I didn't know better. Not bad compared to mass market rum, but it's hard to think of a situation I'd recommend it over something else.

Toffee on the nose, coffee on the taste with, with a burnt caramel finish and bitter burn. It should be better but itโs not think its missing more umph and flavor
