This bottling from Flensburg comes from Trinidad from the TDL Distillerie and was produced in 2002 in column style and was then allowed to mature for 21y. The rum has been aged 50% in an Armagnac barrel and 50% in a Cognac cask. Afterwards, the rum was brought together again in a Ruby Port barrel and got its finish there. The rum was bottled with a drinking strength of 46.5% alcohol without additives or filtration as a single cask with 241 bottles.
The rum shows nice typical TDL notes on the nose. Tropical fruits, yellow fruit and a lemon zest note. In addition, slightly medical with beautiful mint. The rum is fresh and slightly floral. Everything is very balanced and the dilution is not noticeable. On the palate, amazing things happen. First of all, typical fresh TDL notes with tropical fruits, fresh mint leaves, spice and roasted aromas. At the finish, the rum suddenly takes an unexpected turn and there are clearly recognizable cannabis notes. These are caught by intense hop notes, which become more and more intense towards the finish. This is where strong beer associations come up. The finish becomes mineral again with mint, hops and some hay. The rum gets slowly dry.
What is that? For me, this is a unique profile. Here are really clearly recognizable cannabis notes. The hops are very intense, which probably explains the strong dilution to drinking strength. This bottling is super complex and has an exciting taste progression. If you like hop aromas, this is the place for you. Unfortunately also a bit thin body, especially in the finish. A unique rum and something very special. Terrific.
Diese Abfüllung von Flensburg kommt aus Trinidad von der TDL Distillerie und wurde 2002 im Column Style hergestellt und durfte anschließend 21y reifen. Der Rum hat zu 50% in einem Armagnac Fass und 50% in einem Cognac Fass gelagert. Anschließend wurde der Rum noch einmal in einem Runy Port Fass zusammen geführt und hat dort sein Finish bekommen. Der Rum wurde mit einer Trinkstärke von 46,5% Alkohol ohne Zusatzstoffe oder Filtration als Single Cask mit 241 Flaschen abgefüllt.
Der Rum zeigt an der Nase erst einmal schöne typische TDL Noten. Tropische Früchte, gelbe Frucht und Zitronenschale Note. Dazu leicht medizinisch mit schöner Minze. Der Rum wirkt frisch und leicht blumig. Alles sehr ausgewogen und die Verdünnung ist nicht erkennbar. Am Gaumen passiert dann erstaunliches. Zu erst wiede typische frische TDL Noten mit tropischen Früchten, frische Minzblätter, Würze und Röstaromen. Zum Abgang macht der Rum plötzlich eine unerwartete Wendung und es kommen klar erkennbare Cannabis Noten. Diese werden von intensiven Hopfen Noten eo gefangen welche zum Abgang immer intensiver werden. Hier kommen starke Bier Assoziationen auf. Der Abgang wird wieder mineralisch mit Minze, Hopfen und etwas Heu. Der Rum wird dabei schön trocken.
Was ist das? Für mich ein bisher einmaliges Profil. Hier sind wirklich klar erkennbare Cannabis Noten. Der Hopfen ist sehr intensiv, Was wahrscheinlich auch die starke Verdünnung auf Trinkstärke erklärt. Diese Abfüllung ist super komplex und hat einen spannenden Geschmacksverlauf. Wer Hopfen Aromen mag ist hier genau richtig. Leider auch etwas dünn vom Körper, vor allem im Abgang. Ein einmaliger Rum und was ganz besonders. Toll.
