Puerto Rico | Dark | 40% ABV
Captain Morgan Dark rum is a blend of five different rums from Jamaica, Guyana and Barbados. The blended rum mixture is distilled in a two part process using both pot stills and continuous stills and then aged for 2 to 7 years in charred oak barrels.
Since 2011, the Captain Morgan rum brand has used the slogan ""To life, love and loot."

6:The nose opens with the rather sweet, gourmand side of a Jamaican rum, made of banana and a drop of resin. Several families of aromas then follow in fairly detached succession: pepper, coconut and orange seem to lead us towards Barbados, while mingled wood and walnuts would guide us more towards Guyana. Plum and other black fruit tannins spice things up a bit, as does the slightly dreadnought, metallic leaning that follows. The profile is rich but rather rough, like a typical navy rum.Aeration rounds out the edges, while caramel, molasses and licorice round out the woodiness. A surprising touch of cane juice or honey enriches the nose considerably. It continues to become more complex, with spices, vegetal notes and walnuts that give it a slightly oxidized aperitif wine feel. The rum becomes softer, less rough. The oak is more mellow, spreading out into nuts and cocoa.
6,3:The palate is soft on entry, revealing a sweet, juicy fruitiness that had been on the back burner until now. Molasses and wood then mingle in a smoother ambience, leading on to coffee and toasted nuts. All these notes remain light and well-balanced, until the toastiness takes over and swarms the taste buds.
6:On the finish, the same dark, roasted notes persist, with black coffee and roasted nuts.
The smell and taste are in perfect harmony, both are terrible. Something badly burnt with some acetone taste. I can not imagine anything worse, but I gave 2/10 because life is full of surprises.
Just the standard rum served in a pub that only has two choices. Nothing else to report really
Not as smooth as I would have liked . Quite rough straight. Fine to mix with coke, and probably all it's good for. Ok for party nights / pub nights.
Needs to be mixed of course but it shouldn’t be knocked for what it is
I’ve tasted 3 types of Captain Morgan’s and this was the best .Not great but drinkable.
Good with Coca Cola, Captain Morgan Dark is a fine Navy Rum ☠️
Captain Morgan used to make the official Royal Canadian Navy Prusser Rum, 1 tot of Grog per day to each Sailor in the RCN (splice the main brace)... Sadly this practice ended in 1972...
The rum is very pungent.
"When sipped (very cautiously) the rum just give the palate a very hot spicy peppered burn. The finish is very short and quite severe."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Out of all the rums i have in my possession, this one goes down the hardest. There is something a bit too heavy in it, but i'm not sure what it is exactly. Bottle is basically still full and I've had it for a long while. When i reach for rum, i reach for Captain Cook or my Bumbu XO for special occasions, that should tell you enough.
