Had a glass of this rum after a better dinner at Såstaholms Castle.
There’s several different Plantation Original Dark with different origins. I’ve seen at least 3, Trinidad, Trinidad & Jamaica and Barbados & Jamaica.
This one, Barbados & Jamaica, contains 1-3 year old Barbados rum and 10-15 year old Jamaica rum.
The distillate is aged in charred American oak barrels before transported to France for some more aging, this time in former Cognac oak barrels.
The nose is spicy, sweet and fruity.
In mouth and at the palate it’s also spicy, sweet and fruity together with flavors of nougat.
The finish is medium long.
Overall an OK rum that probably serves well in drinks like Dark’N’Stormy.

Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Originally bought this to put into a batch of Aged Eggnog, for which it was inexpensive and fantastic. The funk really shines through in that, and it also makes a solid daiquiri (with a little less sugar).
However, sipping it is a matter of fortitude. Initial priming sip was good and sweet, but each successive one becomes more cloying and the slight ester nose became more like ethanol. Will stick to mixing the rest of the bottle.
