The old version (Trinidad & Tobago) used to be the best among its price class in my humble opinion. Too bad it's not available anymore and instead we get a rough and almost "smokey" new Trinidad & Jamaica version which I couldn't really enjoy straight up at all.
It's all a matter of taste of course but to me a very good and cheap everyday straight up rum has died. R.I.P.
It's a nice rum. Quite sweet. Its pretty cheap too.
With a mild but rich flavor, albeit a little harsh, it's not a sipper but it works well in a variety of drinks. It's good on the rocks with water, too. I don't have a single favorite rum but if I were forced to choose only one rum to drink for the rest of my life with a limited budget, this would be among the finalists. My ratings don't factor in the price but if they did, this would be an 8 or a 9.
Schmeckt in Cola nach Rumtopf. Das muss man mögen, so wie ich.
For the 12 € I paid for this I got a lot of Rum. I think they somhow updated the original Dark, because it has a new lable now, which says that it also contains some jamaican Rum now and it is possible to taste the typical Jamaica notes now. So if your standard is not to high this one can already be a great sipper.
For just a few dollars more (isn't that a Clint Eastwood movie?) you can have some of the best I can think of - the Plantation 5 year Barbados. The best few dollars you will ever spend.
On a supermarket blend to be honest.
Pretty nasty sickly sweet. Unremarkable.
I'm afraid people are seduced by the pretty bottle. This isn't great rum I'm afraid
Bon rhum très parfumé avec une accroche virile mais pas agressive. A tester.
Its sickly sweet and quite cloying.
"There’s nothing complex in the nose just sweet brown sugar."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Beautiful amber color liquid in the bottle. The aroma is sweet reminding me of melting caramel candy. The flavor is also quite sweet with caramel, vanilla and some spiciness. Definitely too sweet to be a sipping rum. Must be a mixing rum. Tried it in Coke Zero and it didn't work well. The sweetness of the rum just adds to the sweetness of the Coke Zero and it made it seem I was drinking syrup with a little carbonation. I'm afraid it would do the same with fruit-based drinks or other mixed drinks that contain sweet ingredients.
However...
A good use...which I will myself try...appears to be a counter for bitters and coffee drinks. I think a coffee with this rum might actually be ideal.
