This Velier bottling comes from Reunion from the Isautier Distillery and was made in 2005 from molasses in column style and was allowed to mature tropical for 16 years in Ex Bourbon barrels. The rum was then bottled as a single cask with a cask strength of 64% alcohol without additives or filtration.
On the nose the rum is a bit closed. Letting it breathe helps. Then all the complexity comes through. I get a lot of tropical fruit with coconut. Served with spicy vanilla, nuts and chocolate. Citrus fruits and orange peel brighten the rum nicely. In addition, beautiful notes of butter scotch, pastries, roasted aromas and candied fruits. The whole thing is very round and tasty. On the palate, the rum is spicier with vanilla, baking spices, dark chocolate and tropical fruit. In addition, roasted aromas, caramel and confectionery. It comes wood and the rum is intense and powerful. The finish has more dark chocolate and caramel. In addition, roasted aromas, leather and mocha and tannins are added and the rum becomes slightly astringent.
A very nice creamy rum that is on the dark side. Many classic rum aromas are present here in perfect balance and that is really fun. An absolute top rum. But I liked the 16y Agricole much better in direct comparison. A blend of both rums is also an absolutely exciting experience.
Diese Velier Abfüllung kommt aus Reunion von der Isautier Distillerie und wurde 2005 aus Melasse im Column Style hergestellt und durfte 16 Jahre tropisch in Ex Bourbon Fässern reifen. Der Rum wurde anschließend ohne Zusatzstoffe oder Filtration als Single Cask mit einer Fassstärke von 64% Alkohol abgefüllt.
In der Nase ist der Rum schön süffig aber etwas verschlossen. Atmen lassen hilft. Dann kommt die ganze Komplexität durch. Ich bekomme schön viel tropische Frucht mit Kokosnuss. Dazu würzige Vanille, Nuss und Schokolade. Zitrusfrüchte und Orangenschale hellen den Rum schön auf. Dazu schöne Noten von Butter Scotch, Gebäck, Röstaromen und kandierten Früchten. Das ganze ist sehr Rund und lecker. Am Gaumen ist der Rum würziger mit Vanille, Backgewürzen, dunkler Schokolade und tropischer Frucht. Dazu Röstaromen, Karamel und Konfekt. Es kommt Holz und der Rum ist intensiv und kräftig. Der Abgang hat mehr dunkle Schokolade und Karamel. Dazu Röstaromen, Leder und Mokka und es kommen Tannine dazu und der Rum wird leicht adstringent.
Ein sehr schöner cremiger Rum der auf der dunklen Seite steht. Viele klassische Rum Aromen sind hier in perfekter Balance vorhanden und das macht richtig Spaß. Ein absoluter Spitzen Rum. Mir hat der 16y Agricole im direkten Vergleich aber doch wesentlich besser gefallen. Ein Blend beider Rums ist auch eine absolut spannendes Erlebnis.
