Just when you think there is nothing new comes this strange rum called aged botanical rum. Distilled in Trinidad with a Trade Secret and first new rum production in over 25 years. What do you call it; Aged, Spiced, Flavored? Bottle calls it Rum cuvée, aged botanical rum, and also exceptionally rare spirit. So from what I understand the production and botanical infusion happens in Trinidad and placed in 45 year old Amontillado Sherry casks. Then they are shipped to Ireland for the aging. Don’t know for how long but it is an exceptionally smooth beverage and also quite tasty. So blurred lines here, Gin is actually vodka infused with herbal and berries, so where do you draw the line and not call it rum? Is it going to be considered spiced rum or is there possibly a new category Infused Rum. Either way I liked it for what it is, thought about dinging it a point for being unusual, but at the end of the day it is a very good rare spirit and well worth having a dram after dinner.
