This rum, a 970 Brut de Fut Single Cask from Engenhos do Norte in Madeira, is distilled in 2006 and aged in a French oak barrel for 14 years before bottled in 2020 in just 279 bottles.
The Engenhos Do Norte distillery is owned by the Faria family and is located Porto da Cruz. It’s maybe the most iconic distillery on the island. It’s built in 1927 and is still uses old machinery from the 19th-century.
The nose is soft, fat and buttery with hints of wood, fruit, tobacco and smoke.
In mouth and at the palate it’s woody and fruity with hints of smoke, rubber and chocolate.
The medium long finish is spicy and fruity with notes of tannins and pepper.
Overall a great very smooth rum actually the best Madeira rum I’ve tasted so far, but I’ve got one more left in this years calendar.
