Rumclub Private Selection 2000 Jamaica Hampden LROK 21-Year

This rumclub bottling is the Edition 21 and comes from Jamaica from the Hampden Distillerie. The rum was made in 2000 in pot style and bears the Low Ester Mark LROK. The rum was allowed to mature continentally for 21 years and was bottled with 50% alcohol without filtration or additives as a single cask in 276 50cl bottles.

The rum has a decidedly appealing nose. The low ester content and the reduction to 50% make the character supple but at the same time no less intense. I get a lot of baked pineapple, fermented fruit, but also vanilla, candied tropical fruit and esters with some solvent. The whole thing looks funky but also creamy. On the palate, the profile is repeated. The rum is pleasantly sweet with candied fruit, caramel, pineapple, caramel, some overripe, wood and a nice spice. The rum looks very round and easy to drink. The finish is then classic Hampden with wood, some bitter substances, esters, nice and dry and some roasted aromas.

A very nice Hampden and for me the Ideal Daily Sipper Hampden. I like the flavor profile even better than the Great House 2021, but the reduction to 50% is a bit annoying. A 21-year-old Hampden should have been given a little more power and warmth. They made it absolutely round. But also a little flatter than it needs to be. In case of doubt, I can reduce myself😉

Diese Rumclub Abfüllung ist die Edition 21 und kommt aus Jamaika von der Hampden Distillerie. Der Rum wurde 2000 im Pot Style hergestellt und trägt das Low Ester Mark LROK. Der Rum durfte 21 Jahre kontinental reifen und wurde mit 50% Alkohol ohne Filtration oder Zusatzstoffe als Single Cask in 276 50cl Flasche abgefüllt.

Der Rum hat eine ausgesprochen ansprechende Nase. Der niedrige Ester Gehalt und die Reduzierung auf 50% machen den Charakter geschmeidig aber gleichzeitig nicht weniger Intensiv. Ich bekomme viel gebackene Ananas, fermentierte Frucht, aber auch Vanille, kandierte tropische Frucht und Ester mit etwas Lösungsmittel. Das ganze wirkt funky aber auch cremig. Am Gaumen wiederholt sich das Profil. Der Rum ist angenehm süß mit kandierter Frucht, Karamel, Ananas, Karamel, etwas überreifes, Holz und einer schönen Würze. Der Rum wirkt sehr rund und leicht zu trinken. Der Abgang ist dann klassisch Hampden mit Holz, etwas Bitterstoffen, Ester, schön trocken und etwas Röstarmonen.

Ein sehr schöner Hampden und für mich der Ideale Daily Sipper Hampden. Gefällt mir vom Geschmacksprofil sogar besser als der Great House 2021, aber die Reduzierung auf 50% stört dann doch etwas. Einen 21 Jahre alten Hampden hätte man durchaus etwas mehr Power und Wärme lassen dürfen. So ist er absolut rund. Aber auch etwas flacher als er sein müsste. Mein Motto. Reduzieren kann ich im Zweifel selber 😉
