This bottling comes from Swell de Spirits and contains a rum from the West Indies Distillery (WIRD), which is based in Barbados. The rum was produced in 1996 in column and pot style and was allowed to store for about 27 years in used American white egg barrels. 80% of the time continental. Subsequently, the rum was bottled as a single cask with a cask strength of 61.9% alcohol without additives or filtration. There are 293 bottles.
The rum has a very balanced, supple nose. I find caramel, vanilla, wood and a nice fruitiness. In addition, light roasted aromas. The whole thing looks sweet and a bit closed. Very elegant. On the palate, the rum has a lot of power and a nice full body. I recognize burnt sugar and caramel. The rum has an amazing sweetness and is very creamy. It comes a nice seasoning with vanilla, toffee and wood. The wood becomes more present with bitter substances and there is also a fruitiness. The finish is then dry, woody with tannins, roasted aromas and feels more fresh with slightly reminiscent of menthol. The rum is astringent and lingers in the mouth for a long time.
An outstanding rum and the storage worked very well here. The balance is exceptionally good and the alcohol is perfectly integrated. It's really fun because it's just delicious. The only thing missing is something special for the very high price. Maybe a little well-behaved. But definitely a great old rum.

Der Rum hat eine sehr ausgewogene, geschmeidige Nase. Ich finde Karamel, Vanille, Holz und eine schöne Fruchtigkeit. Dazu leichte Röstaromen. Das ganze wirkt süß und etwas verschlossen. Sehr elegant. Am Gaumen hat der Rum viel Power und eine schönen vollen Körper. Ich erkenne gebrannten Zucker und Karamel. Der Eum hat eine erstaunliche Süße und ist sehr cremig. Es kommt eine schöne Würze mit Vanille, Toffee und Holz. Das Holz wird präsenter mit Bitterstoffen und es kommt auch eine Fruchtigkeit dazu. Der Abgang ist dann trocken, holzige mit Tanninen, Röstaromen und eine frische die ganze leicht an Menthol erinnert. Der Rum ist leicht adstringent und verweilt lange im Mund.
Ein herausragender Rum und die Lagerung hat hier sehr gur geklappt. Die Balance ist außergewöhnlich gut und der Alkohol perfekt integriert. Das macht richtig Spaß da er einfach sehr lecker ist. Es fehlt dann nur das gewisse Extra für den sehr hohen Preis. Vielleicht etwas brav. Aber auf jeden Fall ein toller alter Rum.
