I’ve never tasted the Wray & Nephew 17 year so I’m rating the Appleton 17 year Legend on its own. It’s very unique and unlike anything else. On the nose is a faint Jamaican ester smell that is quickly overtaken by cherry and tobacco along with a wonderful fruit cake of sorts. There is also a touch of baking spice complementing the fruit cake.
On the palate it’s a mix bag of over ripe fruit, some wood and smoke, and maybe a touch of burnt caramel and vanilla.
It’s truly a taste of history as it’s fermented and distilled following the original Wray & Nephew 17 year rum.
Cheers to this one!
