Ron Colon Salvadoreno Red Banana Oleo rum

Ron Colon Salvadoreno Red Banana Oleo

El Salvador | Flavored | 40.5% ABV

This unique flavored rum was inspired by red banana trees that provide shade for coffee cherries at the Jags Head Coffee Farms in El Salvador. When Ron Colón's drink ambassador crafted a cocktail with their Dark Aged Rum, banana oleo saccharum, chocolate, and bitters, they set out to replicate the drink.

In the bottle from Trader Mort’s on Shelter Island. Pours a harvest gold color. Big banana esters like a Hefeweizen. Crazy big upfront syrup thick sweetness followed by a banana bread taste. A fun sipper in its own right, but this has soooo many cocktail possibilities!

I'm a little miffed because rum ratings thinks I'm a robot but I'll try again
Purchased at Trader Mort's, tasted back home with the Admirals
Appearance: dark amber
Aroma: Christmas plum pudding
Flavor: I would have guessed this was a clementine syrup but if I try hard I can taste some banana at the finish.
Notes: this is a very sweet rum, best sipped as an aperitif

Rich pleasant aroma. Super sweet. Caramel. Sugar forward and sugar finish.

I'll disclose that banana is one of my least favorite flavors. But I found this rum to be extremely tasty for a flavored rum. Has a sweet creamy texture, that reminds me a bit of Brinley Gold Rums. Quite smooth, and I actually like the banana taste of this.

This is a rum that can only be good for mixing. Overly sweet with hints of banana. Not one that I’ll be keep on hand. However if you’re a big fan of banana, you will definitely enjoy this.

The nose carries a hint of banana and the astringence of alcohol. There is also the smell of what I suspect are bourbon barrels used for aging this rum. I am not certain about this, but there is a cherry-like layer in the smell. The rum is thick and almost syrupy, so it sits on your tongue long after you have swallowed the sip. The chocolate is the second flavor experience, and the alcohol is a late bloomer that never completely takes control. I want this on vanilla ice cream. I could also drink this as desert or with any fruit desert. If I had a bottle, it would be used for end of the meal entertainment, but would not be served before dinner due to its sweetness. Other than topping ice cream, I see no point in mixing it because it is already a mixed drink. I give it a 7, not because it is a hallmark rum (it is not), but because it tastes good, and I would consider serving it to friends.

cotton candy meets rum, with a banana sugar finish, would likely be great in a cocktail, even possiblenit would enhance a mai tai but I drink everything neat to compare so neat it’s a bit too sweet add +2 if you’re mixing it
