Got this sample for free from RumX.
It’s a single cask bottling from the legendary Caroni distillery that closed down in 2003.
It’s a column still rum distilled in 1998 whereafter it’s tropical aged for 11 years in an ex-bourbon barrel and then continentally aged for an additional 12 years in an ex-whisky barrel before bottled in 2022 in just 250 bottles with a cask strength of 62,9%.
The aromas is complex, intense, round, fruity and spicy with hints of rubber, tar, burnt sugar and tobacco.
In mouth and at palate it’s intense and spicy with tastes of tar, burnt sugar and oak.
During the long finish it’s spicy with tastes of oak, burnt sugar, dark chocolate and iodine.
Overall a very intense, complex and round rum.
