This bottling of The Nectar is from the Long Pond Distillery in Jamaica. It was distilled in 2005 in the Pot Style and was allowed to rest in oak barrels for 15 years. It was bottled at a cask strength of 55% alcohol with no additives. The bottling is part of The Nectar's anniversary series.
The ester content is not specified, but it quickly becomes clear on the nose that it is not a low ester. Lots of esters, tropical overripe fruit, varnish, solvents, caramelized sugar and a nice oak note are really fun. On the palate, the rum is surprisingly spicy and super dry. Lots of oak influence with toasty aromas, spice and pepper combine with fermented fruit, burnt sugar and a slightly metallic aftertaste. The finish is just dry with a lot of wood, bitter substances and an peppery spiciness.
I have mixed feelings about this bottling. The nose is really good and the palate is wonderfully dry and spicy. At the same time, the pepper and the very pronounced bitter substances bother me. I didn't remember it as extreme when i was tasting it for the first time. Will try it a third time

Don't know which mark it is but as other 2005 LP I tasted I would say it is in the middle ester range. Not very light neither very extreme. For me this is the right ester amount : good balance between fruitness, sweetness and acidity. Besides that there is no flaws, but no surprise either. Just a hint of solvant to remember we are in jamaica, moderate wood influence, slighty herbal/medicinal (maybe even a very bit of smoke), quite fresh at the very end. You'll find all you love in Long Ponds. Very good, but having said that there are LPs I liked even moe.
