The Nectar Of The Daily Drams 2012 Jamaica Hampden OWH 9-Year

This bottling of The Nectar was bottled for the 15th anniversary. It is a rum from the Hampden distillery in Jamaica. It is a low ester rum with the OWH mark. The rum was distilled in 2012 in the pot style and was allowed to mature tropically for 9 years. It was then bottled at 60.8% ABV as a single cask with no coloring or filtration.

The rum must absolutely rest in the glass. The nose is initially severe and stinging. Then come classic Hampden notes, with tropical fruit, banana, fermented fruit, some caramel, oak barrel notes and a little esters. But the whole thing is a bit more reserved than I know it from Hampden. The rum is simple on the palate. tropical overripe fruit, candied sugar with some barrel flavors and vanilla. In addition, lightly fermented fruit with light roasted aromas. The barrel is much more present towards the end and brings more spice, tannins and wood, but the overripe fruit also remains. The rum falls off a bit flat.

For me not a particularly good but also not a bad Hampden. An easily drinkable rum, which you only notice the 60% in the nose at first. The alcohol is very well integrated on the palate. Maybe it's the mark, which makes it just a little flat. This Low Ester Rum is definitely intended for daily sipping and simple rum drinking.

Diese Abfüllung von The Nectar wurde zum 15 jährigen Jubiläum abgefüllt. Es handelt sich um einen Rum der Hampden Distillerie auf Jamaica. Es ist ein Low Ester Rum mit dem Mark OWH. Der Rum wurde 2012 im Pott Style distilliert und durfte 9 Jahre tropisch reifen. Dann wurde er in einer Fassstärke von 60,8% Alkohol als Single Cask ohne Farbstoffe oder Filtration abgefüllt.

Der Rum muss unbedingt im Glas ruhen. Die Nase ist anfangs streng und stechen. Danach kommen klasische Hampden Noten, mit tropischer Frucht, Banane, vergorener Frucht etwas Karamel, Eichen Fassnoten und auch Ester. Das ganze ist aber etwas zurückhaltender als ich es von Hampden kenne. Am Gaumen ist der Rum einfach. tropische überreife Früchte, kandierter Zucker mit etwas Fassaromen und Vanille. Dazu leicht vergorene Frucht mit leichtem Röstaromen. Dass Fass wird zum Ende deutlich präsenter und bringt mehr Würze, Tannine und Holz aber auch die überreife Frucht bleibt. Der Rum fällt etwas flach ab.

Für mich kein besonders guter aber auch kein schlechter Hampden. Ein leicht trinkbarer Rum, welchem man die 60% nur anfangs in der Nase anmerkt. Am Gaumen ist der Alkohol sehr gut eingebunden. Vielleicht ist es das Mark, welches einfach etwas flach ist. Low Ester ist definitiv für das daily sippen und dem simplen Rum trinken gedacht.
