The amount of added sugar to hide the alcohol is disturbing. Strong honey like and licorice tones.

The Patridom Cask XO is the top-of-the-line rum from the Patridom brand, formerly known as Ron Esclavo. It is column distilled and aged for 12-15 years. Additionally, the rum should be made from ingredients strictly from the Dominican Republic.

On the nose, it has notes of coconut, oak, and vanilla. There is also some funky component to it that I can't quite identify. The color is rather dark.

The rum itself has surprised me, as I wouldn't have expected a 65% vol. rum to be as sweet. Of course, it gives you a “kick” at first, before a very viscous and sweet rum sets on your palate. The taste is, besides the strength, nothing too unusual. It has notes of bananas and oranges for the sweet aspect. The main thing you notice is that the Patridom XO cask is viscous and warm. The start is perhaps the most interesting aspect, as it has some sourness to it.

The finish is long-lasting but that is partly due to the strength. Besides that, the finish is reminiscent of >85% dark chocolate. With a bit of exaggeration, I almost could not tell a difference between the aftertaste of this rum and that of actual chocolate.

Overall, it is not something that I'd want to drink often but it is worth a try!

Belle découverte. Senteur de vanille, côté liquoreux en bouche, on finit sur une note de coco avec un goût de fut chêne prononcé. Les 65° ne ressortent pas tant que ça. Belle rondeur.

Sweet tones in aroma. Alcohol kicker taste, than touch of sweet, raisins and cocoa...

Une couleur cuivrée un nez très floral et beaucoup d esters et de vanille.

En bouche, c'est gras et huileux on sent fort la noix de coco. La finale est courte mais agréable.
Le degré d'alcool est haut il est donc très chaleureux voire un peu brûlant.

J'ai apprécié ce rhum notamment pour son côté noix de coco

Strong coconut tones in aroma. Start of the taste is honey like, but after that comes avalanche of warm feeling on tongue. Very interesting warm and sweet experience.

Belle senteur, quand on le prend en bouche, il brûle. Je n'avait pas regarder qu'il était à 65% ABV. Ce rhum a une belle finale.

Burns a bit. Takes away from a sweet-enough taste. Not sure
