Engenhos do Norte is a distillery on the island of Madeira in Portugal. The distillery processes fresh sugar cane juice and meets the standard of a rhum agricole. This single cask bottling was handpicked by Rum Artesanal. The rum was made in column style in 2015 and was allowed to store in oak barrels for 7 years. With 50.8% alcohol, the rum was bottled at cask strength without coloring or filtration.
The rum has a nice fresh nose, with citrus grass and dried fruit. A nice fruit with a pleasant oak influence with some nutty and toasty aromas. On the palate the rum shows a lot of fruit, again dried fruit, some grass, wine and some honey. On the finish comes an intense spiciness, which heralds the vegetable finish with dried fruits and a hint of ginger.
The current 970 is an exciting bottling, which makes it fun to explore this distillery further. The mix of fresh citrus grass and fruit is great. The only thing that bothered me was a little off note i can't get a real grip on and that's why the rum falls off a bit for me personally.

Diese Single Cask Abfüllung wurde von Rum Artesanal handgelesen. Der Rum wurde 2015 im Column Style hergestellt und durfte 7 Jahre in Eichenfässern lagern. Mit 50,8% Alkohol wurde der Rum in Fassstärke ohne Farbstoffe oder Filtration abgefüllt.
Der Rum hat eine schöne frische Nase, mit Zitrosgrass und und Dörrobst. Eine schöne Frucht mit einem angenehmen Holz Einfluss mit etwas Nuss und Röstaromen. Am Gaumen zeigt der Rum viel Frucht, wieder Dörrobst, etwas Gras, Wein und etwas Honig. Zium Abgang kommt eine intenisve Würze, welche den pflanzlichen Abgang mit getrockneten Früchten und einem Hauch Ingwer einleutet.
Der aktuelle 970 ist eine spannende Abfüllung, welcher Spaß macht diese Distillerie weiter zu erforschen. Die Mischung aus frischem Zitrusgrass und Frucht ist toll. Mich hat nur eine Note in der Würze gestört und daher fällt der Rum für mich persönlich etwas ab.
