Interesting taste. Lots of barrel, lots of dryness, dark chocolate and the tropics :) Good buy.
A 45% molasses rum from Mauritius from the famous Gray's distillery. The rum was aged for 16 years in new French oak barrels and then in cognac casks. This is a limited edition of 1989 bottles. My sample was from bottle No. 320. This is a purely natural rum.
Bottle: Very nice shape. It is sealed with a real cork and comes in a tube.
Colour: Dark amber
Nose: Strong floral-fruity with a slight whiff of thinner and furniture polish. The predominant scent is fruit (plum, cherry) and then grass. Finally, oak wood enters.
Mouth: At the beginning, a stronger trace of alcohol, then the rum mellows out. There are strong notes of wood, grass and fruit. Then a little pepper. The taste is dry and pleasant.
Finish: Long.
Conclusion: A very good rum with a specific taste that is quite different from classic Caribbean rums. It is drier at the beginning, then slightly sweeter. It is because of the mix of specific flavours that I consider this to be a very good rum. I could imagine a bottle at home.

Bottle β1184/1989.
I can compare it with el dorado 21. Fruity taste, dry, wood, leather and tobacco. Good for slowly drink all evening.
