This Artesanal bottling comes from Jamaica from the Worthy Park Distillery. The rum was made in pot style in 2007 and was allowed to store continental for 15 years in an ex-bourbon barrel. The rum was bottled as a single cask at cask strength of 59.1% alcohol in 350 50cl bottles. All without additives or filtration.
In the nose it quickly becomes clear that this is not a classic Worthy Park. It is an intense blend of herbs and fruit. Lovely citrus and tangerine crosses with herbs, spice and fermented notes. But there is also a strict varnish note. On the palate I immediately get an off note. I can't name it exactly, but I would describe the note as artificial and severe. Then comes a clear spicy herbal note and fruit. The rum becomes amazingly sweet with candied fruit. At the end, the wood from the barrel is very present with bitter substances. The spice and herbs remain.
A strange rum and not a particularly good WP for me either. Overall, you can drink the rum well and if you like the artificial note or can interpret it better, you will get a solid rum. If you expect a fruity Worthy Park with fermented notes, you will be disappointed. I don't like it that much. But the nose saves the whole thing and I can't deny the rum an exciting side. Will taste the 5cl very consciously and try to understand the rum even better. My first guess is that the rum went from fermenting to rotting... but that's more of a sentiment than a rational explanation.

In der Nase ist schnell klar, dass es sich um keinen klasischen Worthy Park handelt. Es ist eine intensive Mischung aus Kräutern und Frucht. Schöne Zitrusfrucht und Mandarine kreuzt sich mit Kräutern, Würze und vergorenen Noten. Aber es ist auch eine strenge Lack Note dabei. Am Gaumen kommt für mich sofort eine Off Note.Ich kann es nicht genau betiteln, aber ich würde die Note als künstlich und streng beschreiben. Dann kommt eine klare würzige Kräuter Note und Frucht. Der Rum wird erstaunlich Süß mit kandierten Früchten. Zum Abgang wird das Holz vom Fass sehr präsent mit Bitterstoffen. Die Würze und Kräuter bleiben bestehen.
Ein seltsamer Rum und für mich auch kein besonders guter WP. Insgesamt kann man den Rum gut trinken und wem die künstliche Note gefällt, bzw. sie besser deuten kann, bekommt einen soliden Rum. Wer einen fruchtigen Worthy Park, mit vergorenen Noten erwartet wird eher enttäuscht werden. Mir schmeckt er nicht besonders gut. Aber die Nase rettet das ganze und ich kann dem Rum eine spannende Seite nicht aberkennen. Werde die 5cl sehr bewußt verkosten und versuchen den Rum noch besser zu verstehen. Meine erste vermutung ist, dass der rum von vergoren auf verrottet gekippt ist... aber das ist eher ein Gefühl anstatt eine rationale Erklärung.
