This bottling of Rum Artesanal is a molasses rum from Guadeloupe, from the Bellevue distillery. The rum was made in 1998 in the single column style and was allowed to store in oak barrels for 24 years. 7 years tropical and 17 years continental. The rum was bottled at cask strength with 59.4% alcohol without coloring, sugar or filtration in 302 bottles as a single cask.
This Bellevue is anything but smooth. It's direct and exciting. The nose is intense, fresh and comes with a good portion of citrus, lemon zest and tangerine. Seasoned with anise and cinnamon. Wood and a note of polish and menthol complete the nose. A block buster!!! Just wonderful. The rum is creamier on the palate and the age is noticeable. The body is full and complex. There are candied dried fruits, berries, old wood, spice with a hint of anise, and again something medicinal. The rum is strong and the alcohol is very well integrated. The finish then becomes increasingly woody with more bitter substances, menthol and a nice sweetness of candied fruit. The rum becomes slightly astringent and the aromas of berries and wood linger for a pleasantly long time.
A very good rum with a lot of freshness, but which also shows its age. The alcohol is perfectly integrated and the aromas are direct and intense. And you can get the whole thing for less than 100 euros, but only 0.5l. The finish could be a little more intense, but the berry aromas, a little weak, lingering in the mouth for a long time. Rum Artesanal did it again. What a great barrel.
