Traditional Bajan rum. Moderately rich and easy to drink.
It has nice caramel, oak, oily nuts, and coconuts flavor.
Everyone, should get this.
Saw this at my VA ABC Store (don’t get me started on the horror of a State rum liquor monopoly). Fantastic selection for the evening. The color is vibrant. Pleasant aroma. Mild and smooth taste. It is the perfect Friday night companion after a long work week. Kick of the shoes, stoke the fireplace and relax.
Very delicate nose. Smooth and sophisticated pallet. Lots of honey, oak, and sap. Great for sipping or mixing.
Rum of the same quality level as Foursquare exceptional cask selection.
Extremely smooth, easy to drink and pleasant. Excellent balance.
Foursquare exceptional cask is a little more intense, but Real McCoy does not disappoint.
One of the best rum I have ever tasted in my life. No added sugar or color... perfect !!
Very expensive and hard to find in Europe.
Found this on sale for about $40. The Probitas white was good, and Foursquare is highly rated. It was pretty good, though I prefer some other rums at this price. Nice nose. Tastes alright. Was expecting a bit more.
Though the 10yr Limited Virgin Oak brings a lot to the table, the 12 us sweeter with more of a molasses flavor.
Complex nose and palate with a quite long afterburn for a Bajan rum.
R.L. Seales and the Foursquare distillery has some different brands aged 10-12 years. I have some of them (see picture), but haven’t tested them against each other. Must do that sometime. I’m quite sure that the Real McCoy will come out as a top brand.

I picked this one up today at a nearby liquor store that has just begun to carry this brand. When I got home, I checked my spreadsheet for another 12 year old dry rum to compare it to. Ron Centenario 12 from Costa Rica was the obvious choice for side by side comparisons in Glencairn glasses.
While waiting a few minutes for both to breathe, I read the fine print on my new bottle. Holy smoke! The Real McCoy 12 is at 92 proof while the Ron Centenario 12 is at 80 proof. I was beginning to think that I had picked the wrong one to compare it to. However, once I sipped The Real McCoy, I would have NEVER guessed that it is 92 proof. Super smooth and it compared favorably with the Costa Rican. I will take this one any day over anything from Mount Gay. I also did not care at all for the heavily wooded flavor from The Real McCoy 5 year old that I tried a month ago.
Update 3 years later: I just realized that I had the 12-Year Special Edition at 92 proof. Too late now, since I have it rated under that standard 12 Year version.
This is an in your face rum in a good way. Pretty harsh in your mouth. Not that sweet. Nose: lemon, vanilla, apple and cinnamon. Palate: Vanilla, orange, figs and sherry. Good one 👍
Mature tropical fruits, demerara sugar, oak and baking spices
"The Real McCoy 12-Year rum review by a Mountain of Crushed Ice"
Has some very Bourbon like sweet/sour like notes.
"It is rich, intense and quite spicy. Very oaky yet not overly dry."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Singe cask aged in heavy char oak bourbon barrels and it shows. Boubonesqe burn on front mellowing to vanilla spice. Earl Elliot’s review is spot on in my opinion. I will add this to my permanent collection for friends and family that like the other brown liquors and would like a spot of rum.
