Very good for an 8 year old and just a continuation of the finely crafty rums produced by this fine distillery. This has components of the great 18, 21 and 25 year old Malecon true sippers. Good mouth feel and balance. Limited sweetness with bite. Some faint spice and oak notes. Finish is medium and dry. Lacks complexity but would make a superior mixer and can be sipped in a pinch. Very good rum for the price.
Round taste with no faults. Rather good value in its price range. I wasn't expecting this good when seeing its price and the cheap-looking bottle. I recommend to put on your list of first steps into rum tasting.
Sweet and basic TBH, slight hint of caramel, syrup, hint of bananana
Though there are typical Panamese rum notes to scent and taste, this rum reminds me most of the Mulata 5yo and 7yo, especially by scent. It has however, apart from molasses, banana and some fudge, vanilla and wood, also this floral/rotten wood (in a good and sweet way) which I found in Malteco rums as well. The scent is pleasant, vivid and inviting.
On the palate it remains pleasant, dry or as good as dry (it is all very rounded for a relative young rum to be complete without additives, but I can't tell for sure). Light and easy but with enough flavour to be interesting. It is not really complex and has the 'usual' rum flavours; vanilla, caramel, some wood and floral/herbal notes. There is a hint of a musty basement in there as well and it could have done without. Relative short ending with some chocolate, coffee and wood.
A pleasant sip, rather mellow but with a few 'flaws' that are easily forgiven at this pricepoint. On the other hand, I definitely prefer the two Mulata's mentioned before over this one. No punishment drinking this though!
The smell and taste is classic Malteco/Malecon - spicy tobacco, wood, bit of vanilla, citrus fruits, too rough to be sipped, but it works very well in mixed drinks as the intense aroma and spicy taste develops. The taste profile is rather dry, I cannot feel any sugar added. If you like Havana Club Especial (or other HC offerings) in mixed drinks, you will like also this one. Perfect strong bodied mixer, good price, no sugar - for me it is 8.
Aroma: spices, molasses, barrel, Spanish style, sherry.
Taste: sincere and real - fiery, bitter, sweet, all in moderation and long enough.
Effect: a light snack enough to accompany. In general, it is not tough and contributes to the continuation. The disadvantage is that it fools the head with the first glass.
For the record, I'd give a rating of 7.5 for this rum but I don't have a choice. I found this rum being very similar to Havana Club 7 in both tasting notes, smell and price tag. A very nice classic style rum, with no added sugar but plenty of tropical fruits on the nose and in the taste. A definite friend of cigar lovers.

Little bit harsh. Not completely bad, but... there are plenty better rums for same prize.
