Amandes et chocolat. Douce amertume de cacao avec une finale intense et exotique
This is a sweet rum, if you find it grab it while you can. This is for the Diplomatico fans it's not as sweet and Diplomatico and it's does not have the orthodox Angostura taste. If I could award an 8.5 I would, just needs a longer finish.
I was lucky to find this on a liquor store shelf that doesn't specialize in rum (I've heard this rum is discontinued).
Smells of molasses, maple syrup, almond, oak, bourbon, and chocolate. Taste follows the nose. Bourbon is not overpowering, but noticeable. I compared this side by side with the Batch 2, and while I thought that was a very good rum, I like this one more.
I have found a rum that beats my old favorite, the 3-star Ron Barrilito. This is like a super smooth refined version of it, namely in the long tailed oaky aftertaste that keeps me coming back for more. It does have a sweetness, but is in no way as sickly or overdone (looking at you Zacapa).
Highly recommended, worth the extra few dollars for sure.
Angostura has done it again. Much like the 1919 and 1824, this rum is the one you sometime have to hide from your guest. The Cask # 1 will make the biggest Vodka and cognac drinkers switch drinks for the night.
Although this rum seems to have its own haters club, I found it to be perhaps the best or second best I have ever tasted. I am sure it has sugar as most people suggest (that should mean little or nothing unless you are not serious about the experience), but it certainly provides an experience. Great for sipping, with Perrier or on the rocks with a hint of lime or lemon. Believe me, it is a great experience in the mouth, a demonstration of what molasses are capable of. There is caramel, cinammon, dried fruits, and chocolate. Smoothness comes with the sweetness. I hope there is a No. 2.
The sweetness is a caramel/toffee. .
"Sweet as honey. It has a very smooth delivery with no burn and wafts of an almost artificial. We could call the overall profile, caramel or toffee."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Caramel, and cocoa are predominant in my bottle, with citrus making an occasional appearance. Sweet but not overly so, an excellent addition to the collection.
