Rum Artesanal 2015 Venezuela CADC Cask Finish 7-Year

The rum Artesanal Cuba 7 years got its finish in a barrel from CADC (Corporacion Alcoholes del Caribe) from Venezuela. The rum was made in 2015 in the column style and was bottled without additives, sugar or filtration at a cask strength of 59.6% alcohol in 375 bottles of 0.5l.

In the nose, the rum is a classic Cuban for me, with a clear note of wood, vanilla and some smoke or toasted. The rum is quite direct and shows a young sharpness. This clearly continues on the palate. The rum is quite spicy and should be drunk with caution. Here, too, comes a beautiful vanilla note with roasted caramel, wood and some smoke. The rum gets warm and is wild and edgy. Towards the end it becomes woody and bitter. Here's some alcohol. Unfortunately, the finish is quite short.

What happened here? For me, Rum Artesanal stands for absolute premium quality. How this rum could be bottled is almost a scandal. Especially for the price of 60€. Basically, the rum isn't bad, but it is far from great. And that is what the presentation is telling you. That's why you feel a little betrayed as a buyer. RA says it's an Easy Sipper. But he is not for me. He simply shows too little complexity and is also sharp. Easy is different. And Easy can also be premium.

Der Rum Artesanal Cuba 7 Jahre hat in einem Fass von CADC (Corporacion Alcoholes del Caribe) aus Venezuela sein Finish bekommen. Der Rum wurde 2015 im Column Stil hergestellt und wurde ohne Zusatzstoffe, Zucker oder Filtration in einer Fassstärke von 59,6% Alkohol in 375 Flaschen a 0,5l abgefüllt.

In der Nase ist der Rum für mich ein klasischer Cubaner, mit einer klaren Holz Note, Vanille und etwas Rauch bzw. richt es getoastet. Der Rum ist dabei durchaus direkt und zeigt eine junge Schärfe. Das setzt sich am Gaumen ganz klar fort. Der Rum ist durchaus scharf und sollte vorsichtig getrunken werden. Auch hier kommt eine shcöne Vanille Note mit gebrantem Karamel, Holz und etwas Rauch. Der Rum wird warm und ist wild und eckig. Zum Ende wird er holziger und bitter. Hier kommt etwas Alkohol dazu. Der Abgang ist leider recht kurz.

Was ist hier passiert? Rum Artesanal steht für mich für aboslute Premium Qualität. Wie dieser Rum abgefüllt werden konnte ist fast ein Skandal. Vor allem für den Preis von 60€. Der Rum ist im Grunde nicht schlecht, aber wird der Aufmachung nicht gerecht. Daher fühlt man sich als Käufer doch ein wenig verar...t. RA sagt, dass es ein Easy Sipper ist. Das ist er für mich aber nicht. Er zeigt einfach zu wenig komplexität und ist scharf dabei. Easy ist anders.
