Nothing like Don Pancho, or Ron Abuelo, much lighter golden color, funky medicinal notes and alcohol bite for a 13 year old rum. Not my thing more like a Jamaican rum. Maybe I need to revisit again, as first try is a no go for me. The box and packaging art work make you expect much more.
Vegetative notes with wood hitting you up front. A bit of an alcohol hit as well, but mellows to a leathery banana peel taste. Ive had better especially at the price. Even Plantation has other much better cask finishes than this one. The cognac just didnt round this one off.
Very pleasant, rather dry, with some esters, but not surprising.
At $70 US I would have thought this rum would be more special. It’s not bad, but it certainly isn’t really noteworthy or unique and really leaves you wanting more. First sips, it truly hits you like a traditional rye whiskey, however, after a couple of sips you really get the fruitiness along with a touch of sweet. It isn’t a bad rum by any standard, it just isn’t worth $70 US.
12 let ex bourbon
1 rok ex cognac
7 měsíců bílé víno Pineau des Charentes
Destilérie Alcoholes Del Istmo
barva zlatohnědá
45%, 5g/l
- vůně nádherná, ovocná, medová, šeřík, limetka, zlehka lihová
- chuť nasládlá, jemná, ovocná, nejvýraznější pomeranč, pepř
Velmi příjemný
The aroma was fruity with a little woodiness. The first sip was fairly whiskey-like with a nice warm finish on the tongue. After a few sips, the fruity came out more and really gave it the Plantation flavor. No nasty burn in the throat. And in the cola it's really great too. I give it an 8.
Nice double aged rum and worth every penny of the 70$+
Aroma is fruity and spiced.
Taste is smooth, with honey and fruit tones, but a bit bitter.
Aftertaste could be longer, but is pleasant with woody, leather and even some smoke tones.
Not bad, but also nothing special and overpriced (120Eur in Czech Republic) therefore 7.7 points only.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Schönes helles Bernstein mit Kupferreflektionen im Glas.
In der Nase lieblich und süss (0 gr. Zucker).
Beautiful light amber with copper reflections in the glass.
In the nose sweet and lovely (0 gr. sugar). Really ripe citrus, pomelos, bergamot and grapefruit bring a refreshment, papaya, banana and caramel want to seduce, smoldering wood chips and noble cocoa notes are restrained in the background.
Noble sweetness and bittersweet on the palate. A huge range of pralines is offered, with fruits, with caramel, with custard, with spices and herbs, with woods, with cognac, with plum jam, with some leather and tobacco.
The finish is long and rich. Caramel and fruits come and go, the chocolate drags along and what remains is the freshness of a peppermint leaf.
A great rum with 70 gr./hl ester in addition to the chocolate also offers a little funk. For beginners, advanced and connoisseurs.
