Tasted 11/29/21 at Laka Lono, not long after a sip of Flora Cana 18 year - so that may not be fair to this poor tired ol rum. I'll also note that I have learned over the last 3 years that I just am not a friend to sherry cask-aged rums. So someone who loves a sherry cask finish might feel totally different than I do about this rum.
I tasted this in the form of a Daiquiri, aka SotoDax. Notes indicate I was concerned it might have been oxidized, it certainly tasted that way. Other notes: "this smells like an old sofa" and "I am uncomfortable supporting this rum."
Lovely spanish style aged rum. First off, the sherry flavor- it's present, and welcome. For me it presents mostly on the finish, I taste raisin...maybe date or fig, very pleasant. This rum finishes a tiny bit hot ethanol wise for its proof but is otherwise quite a nice sipper. Solid mixer as well. The barrel is quite present, it's a bit tannic with notes of vanilla. Overall, quite a nice little rum, I was surprised. I found it a bit better after my first night trying it, after the bottle sat for a week or so after being opened, I was able to find many more of the delicate flavors on the finish.
Cork review: 6/10. Solid report, though it's not a real cork. Excellent *SNAP* when it goes back into place.
Smells great. Sweet with a smoothness I was not expected from a sherry cask. Someone better than me said that it tastes of plums and grapes...that Im in agreement with. I will likely pick up another bottle of this which is not something I normally do.
a very nice sipping rum, a darker rum than the standard 8 year and nice sherry notes.

Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

It tastes exactly as the label implies.....basically the regular 8 year blend but, with sherry overtones that soften the initial oak taste. Not better or worse than the regular 8 year old, just different. Needless to say, the sherry cask offerings is for sipping, so wouldn't use it in a mixed drink.
