I may not be the most suitable person to review this rum as I’m not a great fan of fig and I’ve never even tried a blackberry. My opinion is this, it’s weird, strange and certainly different! Now being different doesn’t make something any better or worse. It’s just that with this rum I’m finding it difficult to wrap my head around it’s unique taste and smell. It’s like it’s not even a rum, but more of an alcoholic drink that has been specifically created to be used in cocktails! Neat it’s sweet and fruity with fig being the predominant flavour. The alcohol burn is harsh. And in the finish there is plenty of flavour going on. As a long drink, this rum definitely tastes better. Whether you use Coca-Cola or lemonade, in fact better with the latter, Belgrove improves dramatically, because the mixer has the desired effect of quelling the jarring alcohol burn. So if you like your rums a little bit off the wall, quirky even, then I have no qualms in recommending you buy this. However, if you are more of a rum traditionalist then I suggest you give Belgrove Spiced Fig & Blackberry Rum a massive swerve!
