I like it better than some of the ECM’s over the years (looking at you, 2004) and it’s half the price.
Noticeable upgrade on the ten year. Love this.
Light on the nose, smooth and sweet on the tongue. Sweet molasses that has a little heat left, great sipper on the rocks. Very enjoyable.
Purchased at Pike's Liquor on LI. Deep amber color. Overall a very nice, well rounded juice.
The most overrated rum? Harsh and uninteresting. I don’t get it. Good stuff comes out of Foursquare. Like the Real McCoy line. Some ECS stuff is good too. But this one? Hard pass. Tastes like old cigarettes.
Compared to Clifton Hall Great House in BB.
The new edition in the wonky pirate bottle, but with turquoise label trim.
Colour: Amber
Nose: Unmistakably Foursquare, but more restrained than the Clifton. Fruity, some chocolate and spice, a hint of oak.
Palate: Smooth, not as aggressive as the Clifton, belying the 46%. The fruit notes get dominated by wood and spice.
Sweetness: 1/5
Throat: Gentle burn. The wood notes linger, turn to a hint of tobacco.
Summary: superb rum for the price (£ 52 at Master of Malt 07/24). Not quite on par with the exceptional cask series, but they start at £ 80 IF you can get them.
For people who like whisky and Cognac.
Oh where to put this. I want to give this a 9, I really do, but is it that much better than the standard Doorly 12 year? Comparing them side by side, they're very close, but this one definitely edges ahead. It's a strong 8.5. Is it better by enough to cost almost twice as much though? Probably not. If you have regular access to the Doorly 12, unlike me, that's probably the right play. I hate making that decision based on price. I wish I could get my hands on the R.L. Seale 10 to see how that compares. All complaining aside, this is a fantastic aged Barbados rum. I'm very excited to finally have it on my shelf (the cool bottle also doesn't hurt). This is probably one I will need to revisit when I get my hands on the 10 year, if it isn't gone by then. Who am I kidding, this bottle is getting replaced immediately when I run out.
Edit: I have to downgrade this to an 8. Love the flavor, but it has a slight bitter finish that I can't get past as a sipper. Doorly 12 and XO win, but just barely.
Comparing this rum to 10 year, I found latter to be smoother and easier to drink. 12 year was on dry side, and burning my throat. Tried it in Foursquare distillery.
Going to Barbados in February so thought I would dive into the various offerings that I own. The nose had slight ripe fruitiness, smooth and sweet on the tongue with a pleasant and lingering even finish. The heat didn’t overwhelm the molasses flavor. Enjoyed in our home bar - King Kahuna Lounge.

Tropical fruit & vanilla notes. It is smooth and has no lasting taste of high proof rum. For the price, I think it’s great.
