That was new and great experience for me. I learned a lot about rum history and production (solera method), people who work at the distillery and, of course, something new about rum.
We had four sorts for degustation.
Punta Cana XOX
Opthimus XO
Unhiq XO
Cubaney Centenario
They all are smooth, great taste, unique sorts sharing common Dominican cane\soil\roots.
All has intriguing aroma, vanilla and fruits on palate, a bit woody. Definitely in sweet league. All sorts have long pleasant aftertaste.
The devil was in nuances )
(I think person next to me (beer drinker) did not detect any differences. For me that was more or less obvious).
So (AFAIR, one week later)...
1st was Punta Cana: super fruity, oily, likely most smooth.
2nd Opthimus: dark chocolate notes, with little alcohol kick on palate.
3rd Unhiq: the little kick on lips, rich and longest aftertaste.
Finally Cubaney: most woody and most of tobacco notes, less sweet.
All of them (classic solera) - must try for the rum connoisseur.

8,6:The nose is thick and deep, with heavy aromas of caramel and sweet coffee. The profile is roasted but very round, with caramelized nuts and vanilla. One can imagine a tight, sweet coffee resting close to the oak barrel.Aeration clears the horizon and lightens the rum somewhat. The aromas of soft white oak come into play. Then we come across the trusty coconut and vanilla, hand in hand, followed by sweet caramel. Time brings balance, and with it, a certain elegance and maturity of precious wood.
8,8:On the palate, we find a sweet rum with a lascivious complexity. The attack is both fruity and very round, with extremely ripe fruit bursting with sugar (mirabelle plum, peach). Caramel very slowly covers these fruits, carrying with it a few caramelized peanut and hazelnut chips. The rum is then enriched by leather and dark vanilla, before being picked up again by thick caramel.
8,8:The finish is extremely round, bordering on rum liqueur.

It's a sweet rum, with a very nice long aftertaste. Caramel, vanilla, some cinnamon and a nice sherrycask finish. Its a complex rum that's keeps you busy for quite some time. The alcohol is masked by the palet of flavours.

I really enjoy sipping this one, its a true experience that last for some time and stays interesting. The only downside is the high price and the relatively small bottle.

Közel legjobb termékük, de nálam a Cubaney Centenario maradt az élen. Ár/értékben viszont nem hozza a márkatársak szintjét.

Probably a timestamp. From the bottle presentation to its absolute taste, there is nothing other than rum mastery perfection at its best.

Ha nem volna egy kis puskaporos, sebbenzines illata, és a zamatában is egy kicsit kevesebb volna a füstösség, magasabb pontszámot kaphatott volna. De félreértés ne essék, ez egy finom, komplex rum, bátran merem ajánlani annak, aki valami igazán különlegesre vágyik!

In my "personal" opinion Oliver & Oliver make some of the best rum available. This one is one of their best and an extremely deep rum. Lots of depth and character, very smooth and good luck finding it.
