This rum looks like dark amber in the glass. It's a pretty color with clingy legs.
The nose is very full and compact. There's lots of liquorice root and prunes. Then lightly charred wood, cocoa, coffee, vanilla and dark fruit compote. It's all a bit musty. After a while, soft caramel starts emerging as well. This has to be one of the most hypnotizing aromas I've come across. It's absolutely fantastic.
I was a bit nervous that the taste would struggle to keep up with the nose, but a spontaneous "oh my god" left my lips after the first sip. This is unbelievably good.
It's packed with flavor and big bodied, but it's not very dry and the alcohol is so well integrated that I practically didn’t notice it, besides a nice heat in my chest.
The taste carries a lot of the same notes from the aroma, most pronounced on the prunes, dark fruit compote, caramel, vanilla and coffee. Incredibly delicious.
The finish gives of subtle charred wood, reminding me of Velier Diamond 1999, mixed with prunes.
This is one of the best rum I have ever tasted and probably ever will, as another reviewer have stated. I have been lucky to be able to buy a decent sample and will treasure every sip of this.
Beautiful dark mahogany color. The nose is on candied fruits, prunes, date. Nuts too. Then comes notes of chocolate, coffee, freshly roasted coffee beans. On the palate, we stay on candied fruits. The alcohol is superbly well integrated and almost invisible despite the displayed power of 60.3%. A super long finish on spices, pepper, chilli and many others. The tobacco then arrives with a magnificent wooded. It's a great rum that does not finish. To leave open hours to discover all the aromas.
One of the most perfect rums I ever had and will have.

The Habitation Velier Damoiseau 1980 is one of Velier's first full proof releases in 2002. The rhum, which consists of sugar cane and some molasses, was made in 1980 by Damoiseau (Bellevue). The purchased barrels were allowed to be stored until 1998. Until 2002, the rhum was allowed to rest in the bottle again. Therefore, one can argue whether he is 18 or 22 years old. The rhum was then bottled with 60.3% cask strength. The Label is mice but not a typical Velier.
You can tell that this rhum is not a classic Agricole Rhum. I let the rhum breathe for 60min out of respect. Then he seemed to open up completely. What comes next is impressive. Vanilla, caramel, fruity notes with honey and oak barrels. Heavy and dark. But also light with grassy aromas. Wow. That's impressive.
On the palate, the rhum is very mild for 60.3% and the alcohol is perfectly integrated. Again, the rhum is full-bodied and comes with vanilla, peach and other fruity flavors. But also oak and honey. and some nice Agricole notes. But not much. There are also heavy elements. There is a lot to discover and 2cl is sadly not enough for that Mission. The finish is intense and long. The rhum is dry but never bitter.
An amazingly good rhum. I am grateful that i had the chance to try this masterpiece. That little sip of Rhum history. Not a typical Agricole. But it doesn't matter here. Just awesome. Unfortunately priceless.
Was dann kommt ist beeindruckend. Vanille, Karamel, Fruchtige Noten mit Honig und Eichenfass. Schwer und dunkel. Aber auch leicht mit grassigen Aromen. Wow.
Aber such grassige Agricole Noten.
Diesen kleinen Schluck Rhum Geschichte. Kein typischer Agricole. Aber spielt hier keine Rolle. Leider unbezahlbar.
